“To Whom It May Concern, After nearly one month of navigating the process—together with my partner—to receive care at Texas Health Springwood Behavioral Health Hospital (HEB), I feel it is important to share some feedback. Throughout this process, there was inaccurate and inconsistent information communicated between my employer, my partner, and myself. While this understandably led to frustration and impatience at times, we also recognize that system breakdowns can occur due to miscommunication or a lack of proper training. That said, matters involving mental health and behavioral care are highly sensitive, and it is critical that they are handled with professionalism, clarity, and compassion. I respectfully ask that greater care be taken to ensure accurate communication and proper training moving forward. Although this was a difficult chapter in my life, it was not without positive experiences. I encountered individuals who genuinely love what they do and demonstrated care, dedication, and professionalism during my stay. I would like to specifically recognize and give credit to Simone, Taylor Parah, and George for the positive impact they made. At the same time, I also observed areas where professionalism and training were lacking, which I believe deserve attention to improve the experience for future patients. Thank you for taking the time to review this feedback. My intention is to support improvement and encourage the continued presence of compassionate, well-trained professionals in such an important field. Sincerely, Andy Barragan”
“I am writing to warn others about the quality of care and environment at Springwood Behavioral Health in Bedford, Texas. I began my stay not suicidal, but over time my mental state worsened. A major factor was the lack of clear communication about when I could leave. Being placed in close contact with patients who were actively suicidal—without adequate support—created increasing anxiety and a sense of collective hopelessness that contributed to suicidal thoughts developing during my stay. There was also no transparency regarding the cost of care. At no point was I given clear information about the financial impact, adding unnecessary stress during an already difficult time. I share this both as a former patient and as someone who has worked professionally at an architectural firm designing behavioral health facilities. Research shows that the built environment directly affects patient dignity, regulation, and recovery. Springwood felt institutional, stark, and under-resourced. Rooms and common areas lacked warmth, bedding and showers were low quality, and the only clothing provided were paper scrubs if patients did not have sufficient clothing deemed safe. The overall atmosphere felt clinical and custodial rather than therapeutic. Most distressingly, all patients were required to wear ankle monitors for tracking purposes, which made me feel more like a prisoner than a patient. Behavioral health care should prioritize dignity, transparency, and genuine stabilization. I share this so others can make informed decisions.”
“Just relocated here after retiring from the military and was referred here by Tricare for sleep medication and continued care. Once I arrived prior to my appointment they said to lock all my stuff in a locker. Ummmm what? No your staff is not going to treat me like some serial criminal or drug fanatic. I walked out. It is not it. Stay away from this place. I thought the Va was bad. You guys set a new bar. **** Response to Kaitie at Texas Health. No maam, you can look up all the information and figer all that out. I already wasted an hour driving to your facility one way. According to the reviews of this place it seems like this is the normal here. Fix your staff. Thank goodness I found someone who wanted to take care of vets, that was not here. this is the worst healthcare experiance of my life. Stay away from this clown show. They will take your insurance money and co pay required, and not do anything. This review took three weeks for them to respond. Shows how much they really care.”
“After what I've found out to be a thyroid storm during premenstrual syndrome, I was admitted due to consistent suicidal thoughts for over a decade. The food: edible, but not nutritious. The group therapy: very basic. The bathrooms: clean looking. No shower curtains. (Water goes all over if drain is clogged.) Common areas: rarely swept. After I complained, they did more work on that. Staff: they seem to hire just anyone. One woman was like Superwoman, but other than that, all were there for a paycheck and seemed to hate their jobs, which comes across with how they treat patients. Intentions: it's all about money. They'll keep patients for 2 to 3 days longer than necessary. This is Crisis De-escalation, and some were asked to stay longer than 3 days and longer than the obvious crises lasted. No need to reply, Owner. I have no interest in an apology. Just improve.”
