How likely are you to recommend South Texas Mental Health Associates - Corpus Christi?
“I was extremely saddened and discouraged by my experience at this place while trying to get help. I was referred here by my PCP after complications with my mental health after surgery, and from my very first appointment I could already tell things were not organized. Before even making my appointment, I was charged $50 upfront, which I was told would go toward my $30 copay at the visit. When I arrived, the lights were off in the front desk area, making it difficult to know where to check in since I had never been there before. After finally checking in, the receptionist asked for another copay, and I had to explain that I had already paid $50 ahead of time. She eventually looked into it and checked me in. I was then told to wait, but no one explained that I needed to complete paperwork sitting on the counter. After waiting for some time, the nurse practitioner came out and asked for my forms. I had no idea what she was referring to because no one had told me to fill them out. I had to go back and complete paperwork before I could even be seen. During the appointment, I did not feel listened to at all. I felt like the focus was mainly on putting me on medication, even after I explained multiple times that similar medications had not worked for me in the past and had actually made me feel worse. I felt pressured despite repeatedly saying no. I was also told therapy might help and that someone would contact me to schedule it. At checkout, I was scheduled for a telehealth follow-up appointment one month later. When the day came, I never received a link, reminder, confirmation, or phone call. Since no one contacted me, I assumed the appointment had been canceled. I was also never contacted regarding therapy. Later, my partner mentioned during his own appointment that he had also never been contacted about therapy. The staff member acted as though this was an ongoing issue and said she would “send another request.” Thankfully, he did eventually get a call afterward. While he was on the phone, I asked about my missed telehealth appointment. The first employee I spoke to admitted that patients are supposed to receive reminders 3–5 days beforehand, but I never received anything. I was transferred to another employee, who was extremely rude and told me it was “my responsibility” to know about the appointment. I’m confused how patients are expected to attend telehealth appointments without receiving any instructions, reminders, or links to join. The communication at this office is terrible. No one seems to know what’s going on, and when you’re already seeking help for mental health, the last thing you need is more stress and confusion. I will not be returning, and they still have $20 left on my account that was never used. At this point, I doubt I’ll ever get it back. Update* They had the nerve to send me a bill for $130 dollars because they failed as a business to send me the information regarding my telehealth visit and how I was supposed to go about joining that call. This place is a scam and this is how they prey on people in need...absolutely sad.”
“I have been with South Texas Mental Health Associates for about a year and a half. I have had nothing but growth and success with this team. I have no issues calling the front office and getting refills/appointments scheduled/rescheduled. I have virtual appointments that are convenient for my busy schedule. Mr. Hayes has been an amazing provider! I am finally on the right medications that work for me. For the first time in many years I feel “normal”. Mr. Hayes always goes above and beyond to make sure my mental health is good. He is very professional and informative about my care. I appreciate this team beyond words can express.”
“I love this office so much! Within my first visit, I knew that I found a place that truly HEARD me. Stephanie has helped me in so many ways to be able to cope with everything that has gone on in my life. She is just an amazing person in general, makes you feel comfortable and definitely is one of the best out there. Their whole staff is always great. Scheduling is pretty spread out, but honestly, as long as I can get on their schedule, that is all that matters to me!!”
“I was referred here by my pcp office for continuity of care. It was very short notice and from one day to the next, but I called to make an appointment and I had no idea who to go with. I was scheduled with Marilyn DeCordova, NP and I have had about 4 or 5 visits now. We’ve been adjusting medications and it’s something I really dislike doing as it’s a long process and it effects how I feel, but she helped find a regimen that works for me. I’m thankful for the referral here, it’s very different coming to an office that specializes in mental health vs going to the pcp. I highly suggest Marilyn as she listens and intervenes accordingly to your individualized needs. I’ve had a great experience here!”
