“I gave two stars because I understand that this is academic psychiatry. Obviously it’s not going to be perfect since these doctors are still technically students. When I first started coming here in 2024, I had Dr. Sahi. She was amazing and pleasant to speak to, and she genuinely listened to my concerns and was quick to get me the help/meds i needed, and I feel she gave me proper diagnoses. There was a gap where I didn’t go because I had some personal things going on in my life I had to deal with, and when I came back Dr. Sahi was no longer there, and I was assigned to Dr. Son. Dr. Son herself wasn’t bad at all. I went in asking about mood stabilizers (I had been diagnosed by Dr. Sahi with a personality disorder that benefits from mood stabilizers) and she seemed very open to the idea. She told me she had to go let her department head know and get his opinion since he was the registered doctor that oversaw everything. He ended up coming into my room with… a bunch of other “professionals” and tried to first gaslight me into thinking my problems were just due to me being a woman and my period and blah blah. etc. and then when i insisted it wasn’t that because it didn’t line up with my cycle at all, he told me i should just go up to a 40 mg dose of my current meds, which i really don’t want to do. Dr. Son further enforced that this wouldn’t really solve my problems, since my current medication was an SSRI and it only treats depression/anxiety… Overall, it literally took almost an hour of arguing with this guy to get him to agree to prescribe the meds I felt i needed, but by that point I decided i was done going to this office. I’m still currently looking for a new psychiatrist. Take caution going here, especially if you’re a woman. you won’t be taken seriously.”

“STAY AWAY FROM THIS PROGRAM! The doctors here are barely doctors, unable to help with small or larger tasks you may be facing. Every year, a new doctor, sometimes having to tell your story over and over again bringing that trama back over and over. I've even had to tell my doctor things 3 or 4 times after seeing her for 7 months. You'd be better off checking yourself into Henery Ford downtown then being in this program. You'll get no help and may even finish off worse than you went in. So thanks Dr. Musselwhite, I hope you find your calling or grow a pair. Because if you're not willing to fight for your patient, you should maybe think about something else.”

“I had a very concerning experience with Dr. Musselwhite. I was referred here for medication management and during my first appointment I went over my current medications, my mental health history, and everything you’d normally cover. The entire visit was almost two hours, and throughout that time she kept pushing me to start SSRIs, even though I explained multiple times that I had already tried them in the past and they did not work for me. I felt completely unheard and uncomfortable the whole time. Even as I was leaving she asked me about going on them again. At one point, she even left the room without saying a word. After about ten minutes of just sitting there, I went to the front desk to ask if my appointment was over. They had to track her down and told me it wasn’t finished, which was incredibly unprofessional. Later that day, I checked my after-visit notes and was shocked to see that she had written down my statements completely wrong. Trying to give her the benefit of the doubt (since I was anxious during the visit), I messaged her to clarify. The response I got back was dismissive, unprofessional, and honestly shocking. When I reviewed my chart again the next day with a family member, I noticed she had also written a very untrue and damaging accusation about me that had no basis at all. This is not only inaccurate, but harmful, and she had zero evidence to justify what she put in my records. I have since filed a formal complaint, because this entire situation has been incredibly upsetting. I’ve never had to make a complaint like this before, but I feel it’s important to warn others. If you are seen here, pay close attention to what is written in your notes and how you are being labeled.”

“While I am not a patient at this practice, I am an advocate for a patient who had requested my assistance in resolving an ongoing issue that she was struggling with. After her initial appointment she was dissatisfied with her provider and requested to see a new one, which is a reasonable request for any healthcare practice. She was told that her request would be put under review by the director of the program but that she would not be back in the office for a few days. She called back to check in a few times within a 2 week period and was told that it was still under review which is when she requested my assistance. The first time I spoke with Sydney at the front desk she was pleasant and told me that she’d follow up again and that we could expect to hear back within a few days. But a few days came and went. So when I called back a second time, and spoke with her again, I was more firm that she had been waiting for 3 weeks at that point and that it was becoming excessive and she was in need of an appointment and inquired about how the process normally works. I was told that it takes between a few days and few weeks and reminded her that it had in fact been a few weeks and I’d hate to have to file a complaint due to the lack of resolution in this manner. She then called me condescending, which I wasn’t. I apologized and attempted to continue the conversation and she rudely told me that there was nothing else she could do so I asked if she could put me through to the directors voicemail, which she then told me she couldn’t do. I’d like to point out that even if she believed me to be condescending, it’s extremely unprofessional and inappropriate to accuse me of such when I was simply advocating for the patient because the practice was failing her and seemingly violating her rights to timely and efficient treatment. She finally then said that she’d follow up by the end of next week (it was a Friday). About 4 hours later the patient received a call indicating that they could not accommodate her request for a new provider. I fully believe she was being pushed out of the practice because in all my years as both an employee AND patient of multiple mental health service providers, I’ve never once seen or experienced a denial of the reasonable accommodation request of receiving a new provider. I further believe my stance because if the practice was unable to accommodate her request, they would have informed her weeks prior. The only reason they refused her request so quickly after my final conversation was because they felt that she would be too difficult a patient to serve. Due to the nature of their lack of communication and untimeliness, they caused her to go without meditations while she searches for a new provider. They did offer her additional resources, but anyone even remotely familiar with healthcare understands that it takes time to find and establish a provider and acquire medications. This is supposed to be a learning facility, the agency has a duty to provide care and they failed, and then they violated her rights by refusing to accommodate a simple and reasonable request simply because they deemed her a “difficult patient.” It’s extremely unprofessional, but what’s more is that people with mental health conditions should be treated with additional care and support, as they’re obviously seeking treatment for a reason. And for this patient, part of her mental health makes it difficult to advocate for herself which is why she requested my assistance. To this provider, your practice needs a refresher on proper customer service and patient rights. And to any potential patients, please think twice about accessing care here. There are plenty of other providers who will treat you and your advocates with respect.”
