How likely are you to recommend Tower Behavioral Health?
“Before anyone criticizes the staff any further here, please remember that this is now COMPLETELY separate from Tower Health, only connected by name. I wish I remembered most of the names in Unit 2 as 90% of them were ROCKSTARS -- and some even had personal experience with mental health issues. Trust me, those folks are the best, because they'll relate to you in ways no general practitioner or therapist will. The staff here gets five stars, the facility does not. The building is NOT being maintained (it should not have the problems is has five years in), and the food is awful. Arcadia is not focused on patients and its obvious. To the Tower Health CEO who thought it smart to waste the systems money and buy hospitals it didn't need to do, thanks for leaving Berks County out to dry by pulling out of the Behavioral Health Hospital. This shouldn't still have the Tower Health name on it. These staff are working 12 hour shifts (technically common in healthcare), but often shorthanded. They aren't being given the tools they need. And for those saying they "talk negatively in the open about patients", the only time i saw that was when said patient was a PROBLEM for other patients, or just not cooperating with the plans that are developed. Sure, it moves way too slow and the fact there aren't 24/7 psychiatrists and therapists in the building is a problem for me. If Reading Hospital can have these available at 2am on a Sunday, a fricken mental health hospital should too!”
“Visit: July 2026 Succinct review: Poor management is clear. This place is courting lawsuits. More detailed: The people on the face to face end were an uneven split between 'super caring and committed' and 'doing the bare minimum'. The good ones were great. The bad...? I have multiple medical needs as well as psychiatric. They confiscated my medically necessary meds and gave them back once approved by pharmacy. Not ideal, but I needed the sleep the fatigue gave me anyway Night shift nurses being unable to find one of my inhalers for me to take for the entirity of their shift? Less okay. Magically was found by the Day nurse. (Poor management, strike one). ADA is a thing. My cpap is a necessity. But if I want to go to bed at 9pm, and there is a nurse telling me "we provide that at 10 pm, bedtime" two nights in a row? Thankfully one of the good people Happened at them and it was fixed. But I shouldn't have to have been sobbing for one of nights before they unlocked it when I asked twice. (Poor management and training, strike) The floors in the cafeteria were consistently dirty and sticky from the previous meal, even at breakfast. I had a mild ankle injury while there. The nurses worked to get someone in to x-ray it with a neat portable machine as it still hurt two days after. I asked when I'd get the results because I was scheduled to leave soon and a nurse bit her lip. "I'm not sure. We're having trouble getting the order in correctly. It's not talking to the x-ray system, and if we can't get it to talk to that system before the scans are deleted we won't even see them" Strike ... four? Five??? I'm not even counting the fragrances I have sensitivities to. The case manager I met with didn't treat me like a person, either, but a problem to get off her plate. Never did see the scans. Released me with my meds... and not the meds they prescribed, and with no transportation to my pharmacy until I'm experiencing withdrawal symptoms. This is why I lead with the short version: they're courting lawsuits.”
“This place is the absolute worse my son was sent here for treatment, instead all they do is chemically restrain him to the point he can barely speak, barely can eat, and is having medical complications due to amount of medications. I have gone days without being able to reach anyone, despite leaving dozens of messages. The staff is extremely rude and uncaring, especially Dr. Kirsten he wouldn't even listen to my concerns. I have tried repeatedly to have my son moved, and they facility refuses, so I am currently seaking legal help. Please keep your loved ones away.”
“Our family placed our trust in this facility during one of the most terrifying times of our lives. Our daughter was admitted because she posed a serious danger to herself and others. During her hospitalization, she continued to display violent behaviors, including assaults on staff. Despite these ongoing behaviors, she was discharged back into our home. We repeatedly expressed concerns about whether she was truly ready to leave inpatient care and whether our family would be safe. Within one month of her discharge, she was hospitalized again after making a false 911 call, assaulting police officers, and making written threats to kill me in a journal that included images of weapons. The rapid deterioration after discharge raises serious questions about whether she was clinically ready to leave the hospital. As her parent, I cannot help but feel that our concerns were not given the weight they deserved. The decision to discharge her has had devastating consequences for our family, both emotionally and in terms of our safety. I believe Dr. Shirk's decision to discharge her should be carefully reviewed. Based on everything that has happened since, I do not believe the discharge reflected the level of risk she continued to present. I am sharing our experience so other families know to advocate strongly if they have concerns about a loved one's readiness for discharge. I sincerely hope this facility examines its discharge process for patients with ongoing violent behavior so that other families do not have to endure what ours has.”
