What patients say on Google

“This is the worst psychiatric facility I have dealt with in Alabama. Based on my experience, the office repeatedly failed to send prescriptions to my pharmacy, canceled appointments without notifying me, and then failed to reschedule the canceled appointments. I was also charged amounts that staff claimed my insurance did not cover. After I contacted my insurance company directly, the facility eventually refunded months of extra charges. They changed my doctor without informing me and required me to come into the office just to sit in front of their computer for a video appointment with Dr. Hawkins. It appeared that this allowed them to charge an in-person rate, even though the appointment itself was conducted online. Patients should be allowed to attend a virtual appointment from their own device instead of being forced to travel to the office for a video call. Dr. Hawkins was also consistently at least 15 minutes late, leaving me sitting there waiting without any explanation. Everything described above happened to me personally. The lack of communication, billing problems, scheduling issues, and overall disorganization were unacceptable. I wish Google allowed negative stars.”

“I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel it's important to share my experience as a new patient. There was genuine confusion around the format of my very first appointment. I was originally under the impression it was an in-office visit, then received a call the day before letting me know it would be virtual. That part was fine — I've done virtual appointments before. What I didn't realize was that "virtual" in this case meant the doctor joins remotely, but the patient is still expected to come into the office. That's an understandable point of confusion, especially for a new patient who has never experienced that setup before. When I missed the appointment, I called to explain the situation and asked for a one-time exception to the $120 no-show fee. Given that I was a brand-new patient who genuinely misunderstood how the process worked, I felt that was a reasonable request. Unfortunately, I was told no exceptions could be made — and when I mentioned I'd have to take my business elsewhere, I was informed I'd still be responsible for the fee. I understand that missed appointments affect the business, and I take responsibility for my part in the miscommunication. But I do think exceptions should be considered in situations like this — especially for new patients still learning the process. Charging a full no-show fee for a first appointment rooted in unclear communication doesn't feel like the right call. I hope Hawkins Group will consider revisiting their policy to allow flexibility in genuine cases of confusion. For now, I'll be seeking care elsewhere.”

“The Tuscaloosa office is incredible and the staff is always kind and courteous. Although there can sometimes be a bit of a wait it is never overly long. The young lady at the front desk helped me through a panic attack by taking me out of the waiting room, giving me water and making sure I knew it was going to be ok. Krystal takes the time to hear me and take action in handling my medication management. She never seems to be in a hurry and hears me out completely. Out of my decades of treatment for mental health issues, this place is in the top 2 facilities for treating me well and being thorough for me.”

“Worse place ever. Took almost 200$ from me only to tell me the next day we won’t be able to treat you. Then told me Dr Hawkins could treat me and to expect a call- didn’t happen. Oh and the ‘evaluation’ Krystal did was a joke and lasted 10 minutes. Was seen less than 20 minutes by her. Awful.”
