What patients say on Google
“I voluntarily checked myself into the Aultman ER, I told them the truth that I've never felt worse in my life but I do not want to commit suicide. While there i signed a pink slip which they did tell me it's basically "signing away my rights" so I guess I should have known better. I expected a 72 hour hold at the facility when I signed this. It turns out that they keep you for around 3ish days at least after the 72hrs is up. I was not aware this would be the case or I may not have done this. Overall I want to say I actually am glad I stayed here but not because they are great with treatment. In my situation I would not have been able to handle withdrawal from heavy edible and 800mg of caffeine daily AND antidepressant withdrawal while still having to go to work and live my normal life. This place did give me medication that so far has seemed to help tremendously. I am thankful for that. However, the entire time I was there you did not actually get to talk to a therapist about how you actually feel and what's really going on. They prescribe meds and keep you from harming yourself and that's mostly it. They only have Dr's who ask very basic questions about how you feel. They do not always give you proper meds even when you told them your med list 5 times. The Dr's dont seem to share much notes and when there is inevitably a new dr on shift you start from square 1. There is nothing at all to do except color, watch TV maybe, and workout maybe and sleep. They do not wake you up for Group therapies or meals or snacks. You have to stay awake or rely on another patient to tell a staff member to wake you up. And when there's nothing to do AND you feel bad. All you'll want to do is sleep. Another patient in my unit was not getting her very important heart medication and they tried to keep her longer even though she had scheduled heart surgery. That's extremely messed up. I had it good because I was on the 3rd floor, Lakeside which is the calm or "less crazy/violent" floor. Besides getting through withdrawal and getting better meds the most helpful thing was talking to other patients. They don't communicate with the patients very much about their release or treatment. At first I wasn't fully sure what my meds even were. Thankfully for me it worked out well and I'm feeling better. Some of the nurses and staff are cold and mean, but for the most part they were good. I want to specifically mention, Alva, Danielle, Kevin, Chloe, Brooklyn and Makayla (i dont know if the last 2 i got the names correct.) But those people were AMAZING. Very kind, compassionate and made me feel more comfortable during my stay. I really appreciate them. They helped me get through one of the darkest times of my life. Also they don't have shampoo or anything. Just soap that feels like dishsoap. That sucked. Also a lot of the meals have tons of sugar which as a bariatric patient gave me liquid diarrhea the whole time but the sugary stuff was some of the only decent food they had. I really wish I could have actually talked to a real therapist or counselor and went in depth into what was going on. When they discharge you they set you up with a PHP or a therapy appointment so at least I will be getting therapy after this. Overall glad I went but if you're considering this place for a loved one or yourself I would see if you can find a better facility first. Especially if they have a lot of health issues.”
“DO NOT send anyone of your loved ones or go here yourself. I wouldn’t even let my dogs chew toys come here. The staff are unprofessional and violate every ethical code from their professional background. People are always fighting because they accept anyone, including drug users who have no intention of getting help, just using the place to escape the law. There are many many fights that occur here almost everyday and staff are hesitant to intervene because of the severity of the situations. Last time I was here, a fight broke out and while staff were struggling to restrain the individual, the nurse injected one of the workers by accident. I have no idea if that staff member was ok because they were rushed to the hospital along with other workers who were injured during the fight. Administration does not respond or try to assess any complaints patients have. The counseling is piss poor, providers are rude and condescending. The rooms are always dirty and never clean. Many patients have been attacked and/or abused by other patients due to poor monitoring and surveillance. There is a guy who is constantly there and he’s always pleasuring himself in front of everyone and staff can do little about it because apparently they are not allowed to deny anyone. There is another young man who comes there and all he does is attack women or people smaller than him. He tries to bully people the entire time he is there. It is so bad that he is required to have a staff member next him the entire time he is there. I sat down in intake for over 2 freaking hours because the nurses were going on smoke breaks and doing the tech’s job according to the intake social worker. The techs get agitated whenever a new patient comes to the floor and are rude to patients (morning shift are a bit nicer) I’ve been here twice without any say so. This place has motivated me to care for mental health better because of how HORRIBLE it is and traumatizing. How in the world is a place that’s supposed to help with my trauma actually causes more? This place only cares about MONEY and that’s it!”
“If you are considering this clinic for a loved one, I urge you to be cautious. From what I observed, the facility systematically targets individuals who are on welfare or government assistance, often with no family support. In my view, they do not properly evaluate each person; instead, they prescribe the same antipsychotic medications to everyone, regardless of their actual diagnosis. Once inside, if you lack family support, they exploit legal loopholes after the 72-hour hold, pressuring patients to accept medication they never needed. This is not about healing—it’s about trapping vulnerable people in a cycle for profit. If you care about your loved one, please seek other options—this facility does not offer true, individualized care, and it risks doing far more harm than good."”
“This facility seems very disorganized and overall unprofessional. There was a constant rotation of social workers and doctors which would have been fine if any of them exchanged notes with each other but unfortunately it seemed that whenever I got a new person on my case I had to start from square one. Good luck if you have a question related to your treatment or discharge because no matter who you ask, you will be pointed to somebody else who will do the same thing. Nobody was either capable or willing to give me a straight answer to anything I asked. I was not at all involved in my own "individualized" treatment plan, as if it was not important for me to know what was happening as the patient. Once discharge was finally in progress my input regarding outpatient treatment was completely disregarded, I was just put into a PHP program and left to figure out the rest on my own. Having a conversation with anybody in outpatient was just as difficult as it was during my inpatient admission. If your loved one is ever admitted to this facility I recommend insisting on constant communication with their care team. Be ready to become your loved one's advocate as their voice is likely not being heard.”
