“had a very bad experience here. i am a minor and came here willingly for suicidal ideation. when they gave me my sorted through items there was a shirt i had never seen before and was 4 sizes too big for me, and a pair of my pants with strings still in them. i witnessed kids screaming at eachother, screaming at staff, touching eachother constantly, hitting eachother, and bulling eachother. staff would let bullying go on for way to long. the staff has to spend their time giving the kids with behavioral issues the attention they need while suicidal kids get put on the back burner. i was there for 5 days and maybe attended one group a day. even then the kids don’t even participate in the groups because they bully eachother until they get into arguments, or they just sit in the hallway doing nothing. the rest of the time aside from the few groups i was sitting in the hallway or sitting in my room. many of the BHA’s are there to get their paycheck and leave. i would be crying in my room and some of them would just check on me and leave. i received the most comfort from the janitor named Roxanne, bha Ella, sw Laura, and the nurse Chase. as i was going to leave they somehow misplaced the shoes, pants, and sweater i came in with. but somehow they had my phone that came in the same bag with my now missing items. people reach out to these places as a last ditch effort to save their own lives, what happens when they go home after a experience like this?? very disappointed.”
“Took minor child here after a horrible incident. I discussed everything that happened up to the moment and they agreed she should be brought there for observation and help. The day after I took her there they called saying they didn't like her age as there were older kids there, stated she would be isolated from them. They booted her out after 3 days, also after putting her on heavy meds that she did not fully have settled in her system. Once discharged they refused to submit a pa for her medication and litterly blocked my phone calls about anything. She full on had a meltdown that could of caused a accident on they way home after picking her up. Only way I got in contact after multiple attempts was by calling the admissions line, they refused to take her back to help as she was too young and her attempting to get me to crash my vehicle was not serious enough to take her back. They literally told me that shes not their problem, they don't have to help me. They literally took and billed my insurance a insane amount for nothing. After my daughter had time to reflect and come down I found out she was seeing things and informed staff, no one took her seriously. She was with older teens that taught and influenced her about adult things. She was not secluded as I was told she was. She did not go to all scheduled group and therapy sessions as her schedule i was given said she would. She told me mainly they watched TV and played volleyball with the adults on the other side of the fence. This place is horrible and should be shut down *** they respond with contact us to discuss, main issues since been there was no one would answer calls/ number blocked so cant "reach out to you"🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️”
“Overall a clean facility compared to other facilities I have been in. Staff are busy but always followed back up with me when I requested an item. There is a wide range of patients experiencing different mental health challenges; some significant and some minor which was challenging at times but staff did a good job at removing us from escalated situations. They provided us with snacks we could access throughout the day and some days there was water or juice in the main Dayroom for us to easily access instead of asking staff to get these items for us. They take your feedback and make changes, with safety in mind for all patients. I would have given it 5 stars, but there is always room to improve. On days there was a lot of discharges, staff were running around a lot and it got overwhelming- no fault on them it just got busy and the schedule ran behind.”
“I was at Shorewood for little over a week. I saw a lot of bad reviews but I just did not see that at Shorewood. The BHA"S nurses and doctors acted appropriately close to 100% of the time. BHA's do most of the work getting things for patients and checking on them every 15 minutes. The nurses hand out the meds and do check ins at least once a day. The doctors meet once a day spending adequate time. I saw the BHA's genuinely try to help patients as well as the nurses and doctors, even when rushed and pressed for time. The place is clean, really clean. No smart phones or computers allowed. This is good because of the negativity that can come from that technology. The food is excellent and there is always enough to eat. Activity therapy groups were rewarding. If any improvements could be made it would be more one on one interactions.”
