What patients say on Google
“I saw Dr Shamsi for several years. He is very efficient and doesn't engage in much small talk. Most of his appointments are very short, which I didn't mind. He is willing to spend more time explaining things to you if you have any questions or concerns. He is a psychiatrist, not a therapist. He will refer you to a therapist if that is what you want. Overall I'm happy with him and would refer him to friends and family.”
“He is a very supportive and empathtic psychiatrist. He has been helping my husband and I for over almost 10 years now. I work in the mental health business and chose him due to the positive feedback from many people that have worked with him. I find it funny that some people have made reviews that he "is a pill pusher"- what do you think psychiatrists do? They are medicaiton management services; they evaluate your need for mood medications, anti-depressant, anti-psychotic and anti-anxiety meds. And they will support you when change of meds is needed. If you meds are doing well- why would you need a 30 minute visit? why would you even need more than 15? Psychaitrists and Nurse Practitioners are not Talk therapists. They are there to confirm that the meds are doing well, and if not, make changes based off of YOUR feedback and possibly side effects. Why do they encourage you to talk to a Counselor? because maybe they evaluate your need to vent and learn tools to cope with your particular challenges - and that is what a Counselor/Talk therapist does ! Counseling and Medication together brings far better results for positive change in mental health. **It's not to make money off of you (believe me, being a counselor/therapist is not that great of a profession if you want to be rich! lol) And, many complain it takes time to make an appointment. There is not enough Psychiatrists and Nurse Practitioners available as a country, so it can be hard to make fast appointments no matter where you live! And many Family Dr's are not able to do this speciality of meds anymore due to changing policies by insurance companies that the "specialist" must see you for these meds- not the general family Dr. So it does not help to complain that you have difficulty getting an appt with Dr Shamsi- it can be with most Dr's! Especially if you want in office and not virtual. Lastly, if you run a business, do you not want to be paid? Gone are the days of billing from Dr offices, due to so many patients NOT paying and sending in their copays. So it is not just his office that requests payment upfront!- I have to do this for the Heart Dr, the Opthamologist, the Endo, etc etc. If you do get billing from a DR, it is probably that they have a huge practice of many many Dr's and they can keep the bills paid while awaiting payments. But Dr Shamsi runs his office small, and that is okay! but he does not have the huge bank resources that Groups that have 25 Doctors participating in, would have. Ok, I hope that helps to understand the business side that can be difficult for any business, as well as most Dr's today. Going back to say- We love the smaller office atmosphere, and virtual availability. We understand if we have no changes and our meds are doing well for us, that we may only NEED to discuss things for 7-8 minutes. My Husb and I plan to stay with Dr Shamsi, and his lovely wife and coworkers. He has helped us through alot of med changes as needed due to medical challenges that impacted our mental health. Thanks Dr Shamsi!”
“DO NOT SEE THIS DOCTOR!!!! I am utterly horrified to see Dr. Shamsi still practicing. I saw him as a teenager, he was my first psychiatrist. He does not care about harmful side effects and will insist upon staying on the same regimen. He places greed above patient care. A medication caused me to gain 50lbs in 5 months, I had gone from underweight to overweight, my thighs and hips became covered in stretch marks, and he couldn't have cared less. I was 15 and his greed has left my body permanently deformed. I got off all the meds he prescribed (because I lost all trust in his capacity to care), and lost 60lbs in 2 months. I had to be hospitalized as a result. I went from being visibly anorexic to very overweight to my lowest weight ever. Every time I notice my extensive stretch marks, I feel sick, despite almost 20 years passing (20 years of never rapidly gaining weight ever again). Shamsi, I am leaving this review so you can't ignore the damage you have inflicted on the vulnerable people who come to you for help. I'm so glad you and my father bonded over being Pakistani, meanwhile I was enduring so much cruelty from him BECAUSE I got fat. Your incompetency has scarred me for life and I'm still trying to learn how to not hate you.”
“I’ve been seeing Dr. Shamsi for about a year, and I can’t say enough good things about him. He’s extremely knowledgeable and has a calm, reassuring presence that makes each appointment comfortable and productive. He always runs on time, which I really appreciate, and he’s very accessible whenever I need to reach out. His staff is friendly, professional, and helpful — they make everything run smoothly. I highly recommend Dr. Shamsi to anyone looking for an excellent psychiatrist.”
