What patients say on Google
“This inpatient program currently has huge issues that interfere with patient recovery. They serve an unhealthy carb heavy diet with extremely limited (hardly any) protein, fiber, and vegetables. Typical breakfast was a single bagel style item. No protein. No options available for lunch or dinner, if you don’t like or can’t eat what is served, you will go hungry. You may also be hungry between meals due to the unbalanced nature of these meals. The schedule posted online is NOT ACCURATE. The activities ‘scheduled’ DO NOT HAPPEN. There is supposed to be 3 educational group classes per day led by knowledgeable professionals. You might get one if you’re lucky. The staff does not have the support to plan these classes effectively. Often they put on an educational YouTube video. Once you land in hope haven, they do not stick to a solid schedule every day besides meals. On the weekends, they did not even hold the educational classes consistently. The schedule you receive at the beginning is inaccurate in both times and ‘activities’. ‘Walk club’ is supposed to happen on a daily basis, offering patients the opportunity to exercise and experience fresh air. While a patient I did not have the option to walk outside for 12 days straight. There is nothing to keep you busy. They have one shelf of books to read (less than 30 books total). There is no consistent way to exercise on a daily basis unless you pace the hallways (ymca weight room is offered once per week for one hour). Group fun activities are supposed to happen on a daily basis. They were only able to do 2 group ‘fun’ activities during the 12 days I attended. You are largely left to your own devices to exist in purgatory while you attempt to recover with very few options to distract you. Patients start to lose their minds; I witnessed patients ripping out their own hair, scratching till they bled, banging heads. They do not have support. The counselors available are kind and knowledgeable, but totally overworked and unable to help every patient effectively. I received very few personal sessions, they would often give me print outs or workbooks on substance as a substitute. Patients are unable to receive support from family. No visitors are allowed. One personal phone call a week for 15-20 mins max. Countless medical mistakes are made constantly. Every patient I spoke with had their medications messed up in some way, and they often had to deal with pain or side effects as a result. I was told my psychiatrist would be able to advise me and be involved with my treatment, she could not get a hold of a doctor (or anyone) from the hope haven center. Staff does not seem to have the support to do the job effectively. This facility is inefficient in almost every conceivable way, besides keeping one abstinent from a substance. Not to mention the patient fights and several accounts of sexual harassment. Despite these issues, Staff is kind and caring, and are trying their best. These issues are clearly a massive oversight on management’s part. FIND ANOTHER FACILITY!! RECOVERY IS WORTH IT!! But this is not a good, safe space for people to heal.”
“Missing my cash $90. They sent me home without my insulin or my insulin test kit. They medically discharged me after 4 days due to the fact that they couldn't control my blood sugar as I'm a type one diabetic. I feel they should send me my money and my insulin because I don't feel that I should not have to drive 45 minutes away. they also made me walk in the rain to a local place to pick up my insulin cuz I can't go without taking it. I just don't think that's fair and very unprofessional. They also only have one meal choice for everyone there and I was told since I'm diabetic I got to use portion control. Well it's hard to use portion control when you have no choice and you need to eat”
“One of the best rehabs that I have ever been to. The Counselors are excellent as are the groups. I learned so much from this facility. Shannon Kern is the best Counselor! Thank you so much Hope Haven.”
“I've been through 6 in-patients and 7 out-patients over the past decade and I can honestly say that Hope Haven was the best of all the in-patient facilities. There was highest level of personal freedom, good of off-site events and the councilors had real-life recovery experience as well as personal interest in my plan for recovery. If the patient is ready they will succeed here.”
