“I’m writing this review because how a therapist ends care matters just as much as how they begin it, especially when someone is doing trauma work. I sought EMDR and somatic therapy and was dismissed from care after missing a single appointment due to my child’s medical appointment running longer than expected. This was my first missed session and it occurred right as trauma work was beginning, which is already a vulnerable phase of treatment. The abrupt discharge left me without continuity of care at a moment when stability and support were especially important. During our work together, there were also experiences that raised concerns for me around professionalism and boundaries. There were discussions about other clients, repeated emphasis on rigid policy over clinical judgment, and frequent references to her personal relationship, including mentioning her partner and their work as therapists during nearly every session. These dynamics did not foster a sense of psychological safety or a clear therapeutic focus. After this experience, I learned more about iatrogenic harm, which refers to harm caused by medical or therapeutic care itself. Therapy is meant to support healing, but poor boundaries and unsafe termination can increase distress rather than reduce it. In my case, I experienced increased anxiety and confusion following the discharge. I want to be clear that I am not anti-therapy. I believe in mental health care and in people doing their healing work. However, trauma-informed care requires flexibility, context, and ethical handling of missed appointments, particularly for parents and people navigating real life stress. I would encourage anyone considering EMDR or trauma therapy here to ask clear questions upfront about missed appointment policies, discharge practices, and how client safety is handled during vulnerable stages of treatment. Accountability and transparency matter. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRACTICE if you are looking for culturally competent practitioners.”

“I am beyond thankful that my therapist from Shurmatz went into private practice because this agency is horribly managed to say the least. Their staff that deals with billing and insurance give the impression that they are not only bewilderingly incompetent, but void of compassion and not interested at all in transparency when it comes to what they're charging you for, or what they're submitting to your insurance. In addition to that, in my personal experience working with them I noticed that they would pick and choose when to auto bill me without my consent with the excuse that, "providing your credit card on the signed intake paperwork has the consent to charge the card". The therapists here are fine but find someone elsewhere if you can; at the end of a day this is a business and it's abundantly clear that all they care about in upper management is making money off the backs of people in need.”

“My therapist Ciera was amazing. I highly recommend her. I had some EMDR done and she was very helpful. We engaged immediately. I'm a therapist myself, and I felt absolutely confident in her skills! What was awful is the poor ethics and practice of the agency owner and billing. They had an issue with one of the big local insurance companies which impacted me. I had to be "reassessed" because there was a billing issue. The psychiatric reassessment (90791)was actually an impromptu review of the therapist rather than the evaluation it was supposed to be. I was confused and disturbed by the misrepresentation. I of course gave her a great review, but I'll not return there.”

“I cannot say enough positive things about this practice. My therapist is great. I had an issue with my deductible not applying and they were amazing about working with my insurance company to resolve the issue. I'd recommend them to anyone.”
