“I never leave reviews but I feel obligated to warn people not to see Tammy King. I’ve seen several therapists over the last ten years and have never had such a poor experience with any of them as I did in my one session with Tammy. In the initial intake, I described to her some of the trauma, relationship conflicts, and mental health diagnoses I have and would like to address through EMDR (since I have had success with that with a different therapist before moving to Wisconsin). Within the first thirty minutes of meeting her, she came off extremely condescending as if she already knew my entire life story and had the quick fix for every issue I presented. When I didn’t agree with her extreme over simplification of how to handle some of these issues, she then told me her and I weren’t going to be a good fit for each other because I was too defensive. This was quite jarring as all I had done up until this point was tell her some of my life’s biggest traumas. With other therapists I’ve seen over the years, the initial intake sessions have always been much more welcoming, supportive, and validating. I can safely say Tammy King was nothing of the sort. Also when I asked twice for clarification on something she said about my past mental health diagnoses, she raised her hand and said “it’s fine”, as a way to shut down my line of questioning. It seems to me that if she’s going to call into question my past mental health diagnoses, and I’m also paying her to be there, she should be more than willing to take the time to clearly and calmly any confusion I had with what she was saying. I left feeling much worse than when I entered and can confidently say I will never go back here.”
“I see Carol and it has been life changing. I have had several therapists over the years and none that have helped me get to the core issues like Carol has. Talk therapy is good and all, but in my experience it can only take me so far. EMDR has been what I've been missing. I went in to see her looking to HEAL. It's been a process, and it's been hard. But I've addressed issues that have been within me since childhood and there's still so much to uncover. Facing my past with Carol has given me hope. I guide my sessions and it all depends on the level of honesty I want to face. I've referred her to co-workers and family members. I wish everyone the type of freedom that comes from working on yourself and healing. And I wish everyone a therapist that's as experienced as Carol is.”
“My experience with Pathways is not a positive one. I wanted to pursue therapy after a very traumatic experience I had and was looking forward to seeing someone regularly. I was assured I would get trauma based therapy. I had a terrible therapist prior and it put me off seeking therapy for years. I was matched with a student therapist- I didn’t mind as long as I was getting the therapy that I needed. At the consult, we went over everything and what I wanted to get out of therapy. The therapist was pleasant and seemed knowledgeable. The second session I had I was really looking forward to- talk about my traumas/plan in place. Not easy for me. The second session was uncomfortable and left me feeling lost. I had expected that there would be a plan formulated- there was not. There was a lot of conversation that wasn’t beneficial and had no direction. I was honestly taken aback. I just thought maybe the next one would be more structure and/or have a plan?… there was no next time because I ended up going with another therapist and I am so glad that I did. I left before I could rack up anymore bills and I actually got the care that I needed. With that said, I have been nagged with bills/payments since and it has been months. I’m talking like a moth to a freaking light. I understand paying but it leaves me very bitter to pay for something I did not benefit from. Pathways is definitely money driven and money hungry. It is a shame because you would think helping people would be the priority. It is not the case here. I will not ever return nor would I want my family/friends to come here. Money is the top priority. Get the care you need elsewhere that actually cares about helping you/people.”
“For years I’ve been trying to work up the courage to go to therapy. The fear of divulging your most personal life stories to a stranger is daunting. Finding the “right” person seems impossible, so I decided to make an appointment with Carol. Right when i walked in she asked how i felt. I said that i felt a little nervous and wasn’t sure what to expect. She looked at me and her reply was “Good. If you feel comfortable with your therapist then they aren’t doing their job right”. Again, i didn’t have any set expectations going into the appointment since it was my first time, but what I experienced reinforced the terror of the idea that is therapy. It’s taken me some time to reflect on how I feel that my session went. What I felt after the session was deep regret. I regretted opening up to someone who I should’ve been able to trust. I felt judged, invalidated, and ashamed. If not for the encouragement of my support network I would not have given another therapist a chance.”
