What patients say on Google

“The practice is a mixed bag. I’ve been a patient here for years, and I have no issues with Dr. Garcia. He can be blunt and very direct, which isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but I’ve never had a problem with him. The nurse practitioner is excellent. She takes the time to discuss concerns, walk through treatment options, and, in my opinion, genuinely wants to help her patients. The front office staff have also improved considerably over the past year or so. They’re almost always cheerful and pleasant to deal with. Do I see all the 1-, 2-, and 3-star reviews? Absolutely. And I have a pretty good idea where many of those reviewers are coming from. I can understand why some people have had negative experiences. So why am I only giving Northville Psych two stars? 1. The back-office staff—particularly the office manager (who, I believe, refers to herself as the Chief Operating Officer or a similar title) can be extremely difficult to deal with. I’ve found her interactions to be unnecessarily confrontational and antagonistic if you can get her attention. She generally refuses to come out of her office to talk to clients / work on issues like insurance problems / discuss calendaring issues - she makes the other back office personnel deliver bad news to clients. 2. They recently increased their late-cancellation fee to $100. That strikes me as excessive. 3. Telehealth is either very limited or effectively unavailable. They generally require patients to come into the office rather than offering virtual appointments. To be fair, I do think the practice is making an effort to improve. The $100 cancellation fee aside, they’ve addressed some longstanding frustrations. For example, they used to require patients to complete the same pharmacy/prescription form at every single appointment, regardless of whether anything had changed. It was an unnecessary administrative burden, and they eventually eliminated it. Overall, there are some very good clinicians here, but the administrative side of the practice still has significant room for improvement.”

“Terrible office. My initial diagnosis testing went fine, but seeing Dr. Garcia made me not want to come back, but it had taken such an effort to see someone that i decided to stick with it. Dr. Garcia asked what i wanted, and when i said i wasn't sure and that i needed advice, he then seemed annoyed and replied "most people do their research first." I was taken aback as I thought going to a medical professional for advice was doing research. he then told me about three medication options, didn't have much of an explanation for them besides their drug classifications, and i chose an option at random. The phone staff can also be rude and billing very difficult to get a hold of. Though this is different than their reception it seems because they are always pleasant when I come in. The Nurse Practitioners are great. L. Beard (who no longer works there) and M Shulte are great (can't remember their first names) and they are the main reason I stayed. Seeing L Beard at the next appointment made me feel listened to and she had answers to my questions. when she left I then saw M Shulte who was also great, listened, and explained things. I finally left the office due to inconvenience, and am very glad I did. My new office is much more informative, the office staff are friendlier, they're cheaper, and they offer video visits. In summary, while the nurse practitioners are great, the office doesn't offer video visits, the Doctor doesn't seem to care or is overworked, it's expensive compared to other offices, and calling on the phone is always difficult because it's outsourced.”

“This office is absolutely terrible. The front desk staff is rude and unwelcoming. My daughter saw dr Garcia and he didn’t even speak with her, I explained what was going on and he gave her meds. He said to make a follow up appt which I did. I called the office to reschedule the appt and they said she never had one. They then scheduled an assessment with a psychologist and it was scheduled months out, so I asked to be put on the wait list. They called the next week and said there was an appointment available I took it right away. They called me an hour before the appointment after I coordinated school and work and said that the person they assigned to my daughter does not handle her age. They were able to get me in the following weekend which worked out. I was told it could take two weeks for the assessment to come back. Been over a month I called them and left them a message. No one followed up so I called them again and was told that maybe the insurance didn’t pay for the assessment yet I’m not really sure why that becomes my problem. This place is an absolute nightmare avoid at all cost.”

“I have worked with Novi Psychiatry and Psychology both as a patient, a mother (my daughter was a patient) and through my work (I have to call them for medication issues - I work in a pharmacy). I have had the worst experiences here in every aspect. I had so many problems getting prescriptions in a timely manner, for awhile they could no longer send controlled scripts electronically and I would have to drive there to pick up the prescription to get it filled. The office staff is almost always super rude (with few exceptions) - especially when I just called there for a medication issues for a patient trying to use our pharmacy - they hung up on me! They do things in such a backward manner compared to every other practice and they want you to bend to do things their way. There is a reason that things are done in a certain way. Also, for awhile before we left, I felt like it was a pill factory. I would not recommend this practice and I hope they will try to do better in the future but it has been going on since we started there in 2016...it's 2026.”
