How likely are you to recommend New Heights Behavioral Health?
What patients say on Google
“I have had a great experience working with both the the therapist and the psychiatrist at New Heights Behavioral Health. They were able to help manage my meds and treatment over telehealth. Which is really great for me because due to my health state I am homebound from chronic illness. They started me on meds that greatly improved my life and I highly recommend them!”
“I normally do not leave reviews like this, but after my experience with this practice, I feel that I need to share it.. especially because this is a mental health office where patients may be seeking care during some of the most vulnerable periods of their lives. I began seeing Dr. Gabbard in September of last year for psychiatric medication management. Over the course of my treatment, I repeatedly expressed that I did not feel like my medications were working and that my mental health was getting worse. My medications and dosages were changed, increased, decreased, and changed again. I understand that finding the right psychiatric medication can involve trial and error, but after repeatedly telling my provider that I was struggling, I began to feel more like a guinea pig than a patient whose concerns were being fully addressed. By July/August, I no longer felt comfortable continuing medication management with Dr. Gabar. I contacted the office and asked if I could transfer my care to her partner, Dr. Tawanda Bostic. I was asked why, and I respectfully explained that I simply did not feel that Dr. Gabbard and I were a good fit. I was told that Dr. Bostic would review my records, speak with Dr. Gabbard , and that I would be contacted about an appointment. A week passed with no contact. I followed up myself and was told that Dr. Bostic had not gotten to it yet but would. What makes this particularly upsetting is that I was not a patient who was doing well and simply looking to change providers. I was experiencing a serious decline in my mental health and desperately trying to get help. I had been arrested twice within six months, was emotionally unstable, and had repeatedly gone into appointments crying and explaining how badly I was struggling. Despite the severity of what I was experiencing, I was left without consistent psychiatric medication management or a clear transition-of-care plan. I was also instructed to have lab work completed before starting a medication for bipolar disorder. I paid out of pocket for the testing and paid for transportation to have it completed. LabCorp notified me that my results were available, yet I still did not receive the follow-up I expected from the psychiatric providers regarding my results and medication plan. I continued trying to find out what was happening with my care. I never received the appointment with Dr. Bostic that I had originally been told would be arranged, and neither psychiatrist reached out to ensure that I had appropriate medication management during this transition. Ultimately, I had to find a completely different psychiatric provider on my own. By that point, I had gone more than a month without the psychiatric medication management and support I had been seeking. The one person I absolutely want to recognize is my therapist, Alexis Reeves. My experience with her has been the complete opposite. Alexis has been consistent, compassionate, patient, and responsive. She followed up with me and took my mental health seriously during an extremely difficult period of my life. When I felt like I was falling through the cracks, she was the person who continued to show up for me. I am genuinely grateful for the care she provided. I understand that mental health treatment is complicated and that no provider can guarantee that a particular medication will work. My complaint is not simply that a medication did not work. My concern is the lack of communication, continuity of care, and follow-up that I experienced while I was clearly struggling. Mental health patients should not have to repeatedly chase an office for psychiatric care while they are already fighting to keep themselves together. I came to this practice because I needed help. Unfortunately, I ultimately had to seek that help somewhere else.”
“Best provider I've been through in over 15 years! Very kind, patient, and understanding. Dr. Bostic is very professional, treated me with care, and listened to everything I had to say. I plan on being with her long-term. I felt like she really listened and assessed very adequately. Hope you decide to choose New Heights Behavioral Health. I feel blessed to be a patient no doubt about it.”
“I've been seeing Dr. Bostic for a few months now and she has been absolutely wonderful! She's so down to earth and makes you feel comfortable with sharing. I like that she shares things in common with me which makes it very easy to talk to her about my concerns. I feel 1000 times better since seeing Dr Bostic and I am very grateful for her help!”
