What patients say on Google
“I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel obligated to share my experience with this practice. I was a patient here seeing Jaaska Cather for medication management related to anxiety, panic attacks, and trauma-related issues. One of the first concerns I had was discovering through my therapist that I had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder. This diagnosis was never discussed with me directly by my provider, and I only learned about it because it appeared in my medical records that my therapist could see. My therapist expressed to me that she did not think that’s what was going on with me and I agreed. Regardless of whether a provider believes a diagnosis is appropriate, I believe patients deserve to have significant diagnoses communicated and explained to them. After that, I spent months trying multiple medications that either were ineffective or caused unpleasant side effects before eventually being prescribed medication that had worked well for me in the past. I often felt that my history and previous treatment success were not being adequately considered. My second major concern involved medication continuity. When I was about to lose my insurance coverage, I contacted the office regarding a refill because I was prescribed Zoloft and did not want to abruptly stop treatment. I was also told a while back when I first started seeing Jaaska Cather that if I were ever in this situation, she would do this for me. When I called I was told that because I had missed an appointment, I would need to go to the ER for medication. I would have understood this response if I had not been seen for an extended period of time, but I had spoken with my provider only about a month earlier and the appointment I missed was for a medication increase for medications I have been on. Why would you want someone to go cold turkey off of medication you just increased? As a result, I had to taper myself off medication rather than continue treatment through the practice. The final incident that led me to leave occurred when I scheduled a telehealth follow-up after regaining insurance coverage. I waited by the phone at my appointment time because every appointment after my initial virtual intake had been conducted by phone. After waiting over 15 minutes, as I was calling the office to ask if the provider was running behind (which she has a history of doing, so I thought this was normal for her), I received a call from them at the same moment. The office contacted me and informed me that the appointment was being considered a no-show because the provider expected me to join a virtual visit instead. I had not received any communication indicating that this appointment would be handled differently from all of my previous follow-ups. When I asked whether I would be charged a no-show fee for what appeared to be a misunderstanding, I initially could not get a clear answer. I said I needed to know a for sure answer because it will help me decide if I want to reschedule or not and I was told that I would in fact be charged the fee. I expressed my concern that I had been available for the appointment, waiting by the phone as I had done for every previous follow-up, and that the confusion stemmed from inconsistent communication regarding the appointment format. Despite this, the fee was still going to be applied. I was informed that it was the practice charging me, not Jaaska Cather, so I said that I have to pay for the doctor’s mistake? The interaction left me feeling that patient concerns were not being heard and that policies were being prioritized over common-sense resolution. My overall experience was marked by poor communication, lack of transparency, and a lack of empathy. Mental health treatment requires trust and clear communication, and unfortunately I did not find either here. I ultimately chose to seek care elsewhere.”
“My mental health practitioner Suvy Hyytiainen is great. She has been treating me for anxiety and depression since January 2025. She's been so kind, compassionate and empathetic, always giving me good advice and understanding my difficult situation. She's become very important to my personal emotional well-being.”
“I have treasured my relationship as patient of my therapist Jennifer Jordan. Over a number of years, she has given very wise advice in coping with my very personal challenges with family and in other relationships. She is wise, insightful, kind, patient and empathetic whenever we chat remotely and I have been comforted and enlightened by her wisdom and expertise. Jennifer is an excellent listener whom I also admire for her vast knowledge of the medications I use under her guidance and support. At 92 and ailing, I am fortunate to be under her care and for the respect and humor she has shown for me.”
“Unfortunately have not had a good experience with scheduling and front office interface. I attended my first appointment only to find out it was virtual, which was not indicated beforehand. I met with my therapist that day virtually, while sitting in my car, and the therapist scheduled two more appointments for me (on a Thursday). The next Monday, I received email traffic stating all appointments were cancelled due to a missing online form. I was not made aware of it during my first appointment when I showed up at the physical location, checked in, and met with my therapist. Now I cannot be seen for two more weeks, very unacceptable.”
