“I was told they wanted to help. I did not realize it was within limitations. When I first contacted MCC I explained that my brother had a service animal and they originally said it shouldn’t be a problem. However, when we got there the person who was supposed to do our intake said they had sent a notice that we couldn’t bring her. I said if I had seen such notice than we wouldn’t have come at all. She proceeded to tell us that my brothers service animal would need to sit in the hallway right outside the room my brother would be in. He could see her but wasn’t to come in the room. How is she supposed to do her service if she isn’t able to reach her person?! How is he able to benefit from the comfort and care she provides if she is separated from him?! Once it was clear that this place was not going to accommodate my brother and his therapy animal we decided to leave. Later that day the director of MCC called me to apologize and explained that the staff there didn’t have experience with someone needing a service animal and she hoped we would consider giving them another chance. I appreciated that she called me, but I went there for help and my brother left emotionally spent and angry. I understand that perhaps the world is still having to catch up when it comes to the types of service animals, services these animals provide and the necessity for them to be with their people but for a mental health clinic to still need to have their staff educated on the benefits is sad.”

“I have a mixed bag of feelings with MCC. I have discussed my issues with Magellan as well as leadership at MCC. The family based teams are great, the leadership i found hard to relate to, and also did not feel heard (by leadership.) The psychiatry department is hard. I find the drs themselves to be hard to relate to, we often feel unheard, and when we had medication reactions if the Dr was off no one would help. They also do not have an on-call line for emergencies with medication. Thankfully we have an amazing gp that did in those instances. Their outpatient therapists are amazing, kind, easy to relate to and really care. The supervisors/leadership of outpatient are great as well. Ultimately its a place to get help when you need it. However if you have to advocate for yourself/your child it will leave you feeling unheard and frustrated.”

“I had the worst experience going to MCC I have a seizure disorder, and PTSD.I have a Service animal, which goes with me everywhere & when I got there I waited in the lobby she ( my service animal) was with me the “Therapist” intake lady told me she would Have to wait in the hallway and not come in the room in a nonchalant tone, it was disheartening to hear so I left Immediately. They said they don’t let service animals in there door so they disregard, blind people and service members that need assistance with an animal! This place is the worst. They don’t belong trying to help the mentally ill or anyone else for that matter.”

“First of all, I would like to thank MCC for being a piece of the puzzle for my grandchildren’s successful story. Together MCC and I have worked for the past three years to provide structure stability within the family setting. Also, I would like to send a special thank you to my first set of family based therapists. T and J “Rome wasn’t built in a day. Sincerely BJ”
