How likely are you to recommend Mark Besen, PhD, Psychological Services?
What patients say on Google
“I hope I can put into words the glowing recommendation this office deserves. Firstly, Billie at the office has been as kind and helpful as you could possibly hope for when contacting an office during some pretty dark times. Erica has made all the difference in the world, she has given me access to all the tools I had but didn't know how to use yet. I cannot thank her enough. Never met Mark Besen but whoever handles his hiring needs a raise and a pizza party and 2 thumbs up. #therapized”
“As a parent, I cannot say enough positive things about this psychological services practice. From the very first interaction, their customer service stood out—they were kind, responsive, and genuinely invested in helping my child get the support they needed. Navigating mental health care can be overwhelming, but their team made the entire process feel manageable and reassuring. Their professionalism is exceptional. Every staff member we encountered was knowledgeable, respectful, and took the time to explain each step clearly. They created a safe, welcoming environment where my child felt comfortable opening up, which made a tremendous difference in their progress. One thing that truly exceeded my expectations was how they managed their waitlist. Like many families, we were concerned about delays, but the practice was proactive and communicative. They reached out as soon as an earlier appointment became available and worked with our schedule to get us in sooner than we anticipated. That level of attentiveness made us feel like we truly mattered, and it showed how committed they are to making care accessible rather than leaving families waiting without updates or support. They also made a point to involve me as a parent in a thoughtful and supportive way. I was given guidance on how to reinforce what my child is learning in sessions without feeling overwhelmed or unsure of what to do at home. That collaboration has made a huge difference in creating consistency and progress outside of appointments. Another aspect that stood out was their ability to tailor their approach to my child’s unique needs. They didn’t rely on a one-size-fits-all method—instead, they adjusted techniques and communication styles to truly connect, which helped build trust quickly. My child actually looks forward to sessions, which is something I never expected to say. It’s clear this practice goes above and beyond, not only in clinical expertise but in how they treat families as a whole. Their combination of compassion, efficiency, and real-world tools has exceeded every expectation we had going in. If you’re a parent searching for a team that genuinely cares, communicates well, and delivers meaningful results, this practice is an outstanding choice.”
“We have been with Mark Besen's office in MHC for 3 years and have had 2 different therapists because they don't seem to stay with Mark Besen's office for long. We had Stephanie then moved onto Rachel Lamb who left back approximately in the beginning of 2025. Since then my 22 year old Son has been on a waiting list for a new therapist and it's now going into April 2026 ! Not sure why they haven't assigned him someone new at the practice (?) Won't be waiting much longer. My Son needs someone's attention and this is unprofessional waiting so long.”
“Unfortunately, the testing performed by Dr. Besen (and by the majority of "specialists" in this field) remains error riddled in the cases of HF adult females. If you have a male child with autism, Dr. Besen's testing will prove this, and you can feel confident in his analysis. HOWEVER. If you, like me, are a HF autistic female adult who masks, autism will not register for him. Instead you will receive a misdiagnosis of some sort of personality disorder. Research shows this is an extremely common mistake in this field. Compounding the errors of the SCQ, in particular, is the fact that my only surviving parent has little-to-no memory of me as a child, so any testing related to my childhood must be ruled out. My memory of my own childhood is equally poor. (Dr. Besen, unfortunately, incorporated these unrealistic notes.) The testing I require must be adult-centric and female-centric with a specific focus on masking. I've had 45 years to develop complex, subconscious camoflauging skills. A 3-hour evaluation would hardly crack that code. I reiterate, however, that if you have an autistic MALE CHILD, I do recommend Dr. Besen.”
