“After a very mixed experience at Oakview Behavioral Health in Middleburg at Southwest General Hospital system, I was looking forward to trying Highland Springs IOP because I was very impressed with the groups and the therapists who ran them when I was on the inpatient unit November '24. Happy to say IOP met and even exceeded my expectations. From intake, to psychiatry, to the counselor who ran my group of about 8 people (perfect size and great mix of people from all ages and backgrounds), every professional who worked there was absolutely just that and EXACTLY how it should be in mental health. I loved the general instruction approach that pulled from a variety of therapy styles and information, not just one style (e.g. like only DBT or CBT which can be limiting, especially when it comes to trauma rooted therapies which are more bottom up approach than top down.) Zoe- the counselor who ran the group was immensely competent and very capable. She was empathetic, smart, funny, knew how to take charge of the group when needed, and offer a realistic perspective as well. Zoe allowed everyone to share their stories and truth with insight and compassion in return. (She also challenged those to change their perspective, which was very well-meaning and helpful, and also have more therapists and counselors should be!) Unfortunately the drive was too stressful from the westside during rush hour in the AMs to get there after a few days in the IOP, but they also have an afternoon women's IOP 4 days a week (which helps a lot!) and a virtual group for those who can't really commute that far like me. While I had to focus on my professional life and 2 other private therapists I see weekly which I decided was more than enough for the time being, it is GREAT to know I could always go back to this awesome IOP and its flexible options when needed! WELL DONE, Highland Springs! Keep setting the standard for other mental health facilities in the Greater Cleveland area.”
“This place was truly a nightmare!!! I was pink slipped here because my husband had just died i was grieving very much and somebody thought i needed to be somewhere for a while, against my will medical kidnapping. Almost all the staff is abusive and extremely rude! While i was here another resident threaten my life telling me she's going to break my neck. And of course the staff and the doctor that heard it did absolutely nothing about it. So i tried to call the police and report it and the call did not go through and they revoked my phone privileges, pulling the cord out of the socket of the telephone while i was on the phone with my mother. Another time at 2:00 in the morning i had just fallen asleep at 1:00 a.m. and 8:00 or whoever she was came in my room and put both hands on me shaking me until i woke up,, because she said she needed my blood pressure at 2:00 a.m. because i refuse to sign myself in i was punished and not allowed out of the unit like the other people, they continuously try to get me to sign myself in Non-Stop. From the beginning when i first walked into the facility till the time i walked out was absolutely horrible. The so-called doctor that i seen build my insurance company and claimed he seen me twice, which was nothing but a lie i only seen him one time less than 5 minutes and he build over $700 he's a fraud!! Then the facility tries to send me a bill for $1,700 which is not even legal and they try to get away with it anyway. That is why i proudly reported him to my insurance company as well as other people. The doctor also sent me a 500.00 bill for no care that he gave me whatsoever. And their so-called treatment and counseling is a joke, you simply go in there for arts and crafts and that is all.”
“Highland Springs is amazing. I've been in inpatient there three times in the sunrise unit, and never had any problems with staff. In fact, Bre (nurse practitioner), made sure that I was stable and got me set up to step down safely. The PCA staff is a mixed bag depending on how you treat them, but Will is always so kind and caring regardless of the abusive behavior of some patients. The nursing staff have been navigating a new system now that they're corporate run, but have been striving to maintain quality of care. Dean and Savannah have been working so hard to encourage and support patients the best they can through the transition. I choose Highland Springs for my urgent mental health care because of people like them, and as a trans man, I have never felt safer.”
“4 stars because it's unfortunately the best mental health facility in the State from my experience. They serve patients expired sandwiches, and the cafeteria while not bad, the food is almost better than the local jail. The care team threatens to hold you longer or send you to court if you don't take medication. The only plus is patients have access to 2 tv's and access to movies so it's not as bad as places like Laurelwood (which is haunted) and Generations (They physically beat patients)”
