What patients say on Google
“First off I hope everybody reading this realizes that there are actual staff members that work there @Heartland who will bring in illegal stuff for the patients as long as the patient has the $ they can get what they want, anything from hard drugs to a single cigarette. Being as though I had a family member in there fighting addiction because this person is killing themselves with drugs, I thought he or she would be safe in there but I thought wrong because this place is a joke. My family member was in there over 2 months which I was so happy that they had two months sober but they weren't sober because they were buying drugs in there off of a staff member, somebody who was supposed to help them and save their lives, not make money off of their addictions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And there was even sexual acts in situations that took place with my family member and said staff member but unfortunately nobody from heartland will communicate with me about the matter because they want to sweep it under the rug. Lucky for them it's cleaning day because I have alerted the Ohio State board of mental health and I have alerted everybody that I need to to tell them what a hole in the wall that hospital actually is. If you have somebody you love that struggling with addiction and or mental illness the last place you want to do is send them to this hellhole. Can't even trust hospital workers nowadays.”
“Our experience with Heartland Behavioral Health has been very difficult. While some staff are kind, my daughter’s overall care has not supported healing. Communication is frustrating. I’ve often been told to call back due to staffing or shift changes, and the nurses’ station phone can ring for long periods with no answer. The treatment environment has not been helpful. The plan lists a certain number of therapy groups each week, but those have not happened consistently. Because of safety concerns with other patients, my daughter has often stayed isolated in her room, which is not conducive to mental health recovery. My greatest concern is with medical care. I shared clear information about past medications and side effects—such as certain medications causing bladder problems—yet those same medications were prescribed, and predictable complications occurred. Despite input from me and her long term psychiatrist, Dr. O’Hehir repeatedly changed her medications, in some cases increasing dosages far beyond her previous maximum. He listens but ultimately disregards family input and her established care plan. Since arriving at Heartland, my daughter has been over medicated, her condition has worsened, and she has lost motivation for therapy and recovery. This has been heartbreaking. While I know state run behavioral health facilities can be limited, I truly hope Heartland makes changes to improve communication, follow treatment plans, and provide genuine, collaborative care. Our experience sadly has not reflected that.”

“I can’t even find out if my daughter is still there or back in jail.”
