What patients say on Google

“Sean D. Berry has truly changed my life. For a little over two years, he helped guide me through some of the hardest moments with kindness, patience, understanding, and genuine care. Because of the incredible work he did with me, I’ve grown so much that I no longer need therapy, and that is something I never thought I’d be able to say. Sean made me feel heard, supported, and understood every step of the way. I am beyond grateful for everything he has done for me and highly recommend him to anyone looking for a therapist who truly cares and makes a lasting difference in people’s lives. I give him a 10/10. The best of the best!!! Thank you Sean”

“This is honestly, one of the most aesthetically pleasing and calming psych units I have been on. The doctors and most nurses respect your autonomy, and try not to keep you caged. The vibe is "SpringHill Suites meets psych ward." It helped when exceptions were made because of my neurodivergence, and patients were not forced into group therapy, or forced outside, especially in the height of a West Central Florida summer. Record keeping is honestly done very well, and the tech on the floor is somewhat up to date. I do wish that they would not use "tracking beacons," because as an autistic person with a PTSD diagnosis, it is a major violation of autonomy in my eyes. I also wish that the workflows for admitting voluntary (BA40) patients was more straightforward than first presenting to the emergency room, where I was stared at for 3-4 hours by security guards like a fish in an aquarium. The transport to the actual unit can be a little humiliating, intimidating, and sometimes retraumatizing to those who have been in the correctional system, as it is a security van with a prisoner transport cage. There were a few mental health assistants who acted like they owned the place, but, an RN, by the name of Joel was a real anchoring point. He understood all my questions, celebrated my neurodivergence, and made sure I was comfortable in an unfamiliar environment. The attending MD, Carlina Mejia was very soft spoken, and easy to understand, and took time to listen when doing her history and physical. The succeeding MD, Dr. Pullara, was very straightforward and worked on getting me discharged in a timely manner for a follow-up appointment. I highly recommend here over other places in Orlando, due to its patients-over-profits motives, as they are a non-profit hospital, and they have comprehensive medical services a phone call away if a consult is needed, as LRH is the only Level II trauma center in Polk County. This BHU does accept involuntary baker act cases, as well.”

“This facility looks good on the outside, but the inside tells a different story. My son was hospitalized due to an episode from lack of his medication. I live in Louisiana and have Power of Attorney over my son. Despite this, since his sister lives in Florida, they refused to allow me to speak to his doctor, nurse, social worker, etc., and refused to allow me to speak to my son! I knew nothing about his diagnosis or medication or discharge or post care! They were so rude over the phone that I quit calling. I just prayed that they were treating him better than the rudeness presented to me. All I can say is.... don't put a family member there. He was transferred there without even notifying his family!! I know Florida has better mental care facilities than this. Protect your loved ones!”

“I was Baker acted & sent to this place. The doctors were nice, but the nurses are another story. I had an issue and needed to clean myself in the shower, but was told no because I took enough showers that day. I had to wipe myself off with paper towels while the nurse stood there with the door open.... all so I wouldn't use the shower. The night nurses were the worst. I dint recommend this place to anyone seeking mental health treatment.”
