“I had to wait months to establish care with a pcp, get a referral, wait another month for availability because I was required to be seen in person, and the morning of the office called me to tell me my provider wasn’t able to come into the office and my appt would be virtual. I already paid my specialist co-pay prior to appt time. And I said I could reschedule and she said I would be charged $140 for cancelling. So I accepted the appt. It was unlike any other tele-doc appt. It was a 60 min appt that I sat in a virtual waiting room for 15 mins, and when she was connected , the connection was unstable, so I couldn’t even understand what she was saying, I never once saw her whole face, only her forehead like I was on FaceTime with a toddler. There was no warmth or empathy. She ended the session early. Told me for what I was wanting to accomplish- I would need to be seen in office so she would make a follow up - A MONTH from now. The following week their office called me saying insurance denied the pre-authorization for testing so I would have to pay $250 out of pocket. Even tho, this referral was in network, my insurance covers testing. So I called insurance and they had no knowledge of it. So I called back, and asked for the reason for denial and the code she submitted to insurance? And she said, well that was a determination from their back office. So I said why was I told that insurance denied it? And she said that’s just how they do things. And I said ok well that seems like a scam to me. I’ve already paid insurance this year totalling $4,070 including all the copays for these appts, and now I have to pay $250 for an assessment? Thank god this wasn’t a mental health emergency. And she responded there may be other offices that do things differently, I said great. Which ones? And she said oh idk. 🤷 This was such a blow to my nervous system. It makes me not trust medical professionals. Truly the worst experience I’ve ever had.”
