What patients say on Google

“I would not recommend HOPE Psychiatry or Dr. King under any circumstances based on my experience. Dr. King told me that I needed to meet with her once per month and represented that this was a state requirement. That seemed unusual to me from the beginning because these appointments were not true “meetings” in any meaningful sense. I was instructed to schedule monthly virtual appointments, but Dr. King never logged on for any of them. Instead, the scheduled appointment appeared to function only as a reminder for her to submit my medication refill. I was still charged for each of these scheduled virtual appointments, despite the fact that no actual appointment occurred. During the period when these scheduled “meetings” were happening, Dr. King made no effort to actually check in with me, evaluate how I was doing, or confirm whether my medication was still working for me. That was especially concerning because these appointments were supposedly required for ongoing medication management, yet there was no meaningful medication-management care being provided. I later learned that the monthly appointment requirement was not what I had been led to believe, and that my prescription could have been handled in a way that did not require me to schedule and pay for monthly appointments that never actually took place. This made me very concerned about the way my care and billing had been handled. I tried contacting her office for months to get clarification and address my concerns, but I received no meaningful response. When I finally reached someone by phone, I was told Dr. King would call me back. During that call, I explained that I was very concerned because I had been trying to get a response for months. About 20 minutes later, Dr. King called me, and it was one of the most unprofessional and upsetting phone calls I have ever experienced. She was screaming at me, extremely volatile, and repeatedly cut me off before I could explain my concerns. She called me names, including calling me a liar, and continued yelling over me instead of having a professional conversation. The call became so aggressive and unproductive that I eventually had to hang up. Hours later, Dr. King emailed me a half-hearted apology, but only after she apparently went back and saw that I had, in fact, been trying to contact the office for months. She did not apologize for screaming at me, calling me names, or the way she handled the phone call. Seeking mental health care requires trust, professionalism, and clear communication. My experience with Dr. King was the opposite. I left feeling ignored, blamed, and extremely uncomfortable with how the situation was handled. I would never recommend this provider to anyone looking for compassionate or professional psychiatric care.”

“I’ve been under the care of Dr. Yulanda King for several months, and I can confidently say she is one of the most compassionate and insightful mental health professionals I’ve ever worked with. From the very first session, she created a safe, non-judgmental space that allowed me to speak openly about my struggles. Dr. King combines clinical expertise with a genuine sense of empathy. She takes the time to listen carefully, asks thoughtful questions, and ensures I feel heard and understood. Which is very hard to find. And I am a Louisiana patient she’s wonderful!”
