How likely are you to recommend COR Counseling- East Lansing, MI?
What patients say on Google
“COR Counseling has been wonderful for me. From day one, I felt genuinely welcomed and cared for. My counselor is compassionate, skilled, and creates a completely judgment free space. The staff is warm, scheduling is effortless, and you never feel like just another client. Since starting here, I’ve grown more than I ever thought possible. If you’re considering counseling, COR Counseling is the best decision you’ll ever make!”
“I have a mixed review of my experience at COR Counseling. As a queer person I felt fully and 100% safe and affirmed. It’s rare I feel that way anywhere. I give the counselor I saw and the office itself 5 stars for that. However, my identity was not the reason I sought counseling. I was seeking help with symptoms from trauma. After six sessions my therapist raised the issue of poor match in an email. After receiving this email I attended my last session where one of the factors the counselor gave for the mismatch was my “neurotype.” This surprised me because I don’t have any particular diagnosis around neurodiversity and we never talked about that. It was disappointing that my “neurotype” was used as a reason to stop working with me. I reached out to the office manager to give feedback about my experience. I found the office manager receptive. I give the office manager 5 stars for listening and offering helpful information. What I learned is that COR Counseling lacks a centralized structure to ensure consistent quality of the services they provide. Their staff are 1099 independent contractors. My impression was that the intake process focuses more on meeting scheduling needs than on connecting clients with staff who have training and experience in areas relevant to the reason for seeking counseling. Because, according to the manager, the staff at COR Counseling manage their own practices, I’m including the name of my counselor: Abigail Bartels. The rating in this review mostly reflects my experience with them. For showing lack of skill and unwillingness to work with a possibly neurodivergent client I give Abigail Bartels zero stars. Overall, I’d say if you are queer and consider yourself typical, give COR Counseling a try. But if like me you are possibly neurodivergent without a specific documented diagnosis, I’d recommend finding a way to bring that up before you get started, especially if you’re working with Abigail Bartels.”
“COR counseling is an amazingly inclusive group of therapists. They are extensively experienced and passionate about everyone they care for. They also beautifully support the LGBTQ+ community and their specific challenges surrounding adversity. I would highly recommend any therapist from COR, as Rachel ensures quality of care.”
“As a former therapist contracted through COR Counseling, I can’t say enough about the compassion and care that is embedded within this practice. While I don’t know all the therapists working there personally, I can say that the ones I do know, including the founder, Rachel Bentley, are humans that value kindness, acceptance, empathy, and, care for EVERYONE. Thank you COR Counseling for being a pilar in mental health care in the Greater Lansing area and beyond!”
