What patients say on Google

“Please don't EVER send a loved one to one of their facilities. Someone I love dearly is in this facility and I have had no contact with them nor has the facility returned my countless calls. I need information and more importantly I need to know that my loved one is ok. Call and leave a message they say. I've left about 10. Call and leave a message....ok, but the voicemail is full and can't take amy more messages.”

“No compassion. I’ve never heard of a facility saying someone “isn’t high enough.” I brought my mom here because she had relapsed and had also been in an active manic episode for over a week due to her mental health. After nearly two hours of paperwork, vitals, and an assessment, we were told she would not be accepted because they don’t treat opioid or cocaine addiction. I looked at the doctor and asked, “Are you sure you know your job?” Those were the substances she had been using before her addiction spiraled into other drugs. She came through your doors asking for help. I asked the doctor or whomever he was if they expected people to wait until they were using heroin or were on the verge of dying before they qualified for treatment. Detox is detox, and mental health is mental health. People shouldn’t have to reach rock bottom to deserve care. Watching someone finally put their pride aside, admit they need help, and ask for treatment—only to be turned away—is heartbreaking. Regardless of your admission criteria, the experience lacked compassion and left us feeling abandoned during one of the hardest moments our family has faced. It’s obvious this is nothing but a scripted facility & none of these people here have had first hand experience or lived through family active addiction or mental health. It just isn’t all text books! I sincerely hope this facility reevaluates how it communicates with and supports people who come seeking help, even if they ultimately cannot be admitted.”

“If I could give no stars, I would…. What would make them think that when dealing with people in the mental state which brought them here in the first place, that it would be a good idea to have non stop emergency vehicles carting people right through the waiting area? Not only is it damaging to the people being brought in who have everyone in the waiting area just staring at them, but it is also very bad for the person who came in seeking help with severe anxiety to have to witness people being brought in by a squad, one after another after another. On top of this, we had an appointment at 2 and we were still not called back after 2 1/2 hours of waiting. We ended up leaving with my relative in a worse state of mind than when we got there. A very sad and disappointing experience for us.”

“Do not recommend this place. My brother was on a voluntary 72 hour psych hold only because his long acting medication was not working so he went on his own when he started to slip back into a manic episode. They kept him past his 72 hour hold which meant he missed several important appointments, he hardly spoke with his care team, and they NEVER reached out to me even though he signed over all rights to me. I called 7-8 times and left voicemails on the main line but never got a call back until I called the patient advocacy line. Mind you this was several days after the weekend so his care team was working. They also canceled quite a few of the group sessions, had people arguing and fighting that shouldn’t have been in the main population it’s like they didn’t separate anyone based on their severity, and there is nothing to do which is not good for people who have mental health disorders. There was not a working tv, they had minimal things to color and only puzzles available and even then you only had a handful of choices. This place need to have things to do that is stimulating when the patients are not in therapy, it is proven to be a positive for mental health recovery so I’m confused why it was not used here. There needs to be access to several TVs, music (extremely helpful for recovery, cross word puzzles, books, crafts, etc. I know that these places have to be limited to what they can have but there are options that are appropriate outside of just group and then walking around all day with nothing to do and no one to talk with. All around this place needs to have a new staff and start from scratch. Even the staff was complaining about their job in front of the patients. How are the patients supposed to feel safe if the staff doesn’t even like their job? I know my brother didn’t, he’s in his mid 30s and was calling me so upset he was trying not to cry because he was scared he’d be stuck there because of the absolute lack of communication from his care team to him and his family. I’ve also NEVER seen a mental health hospital not have an open call line for family. The people in that facility should be accessible to their family through their nurses. I never once spoke to his doctor or his nurse because they do not call you back or communicate with you. I still do not know what his care team did, if anything at all. He was previously at Riverside and they were a dream to work with, I had access to his care team and to him 24/7 and they called me almost every day. Do better next time.”
