How likely are you to recommend Columbia Mental Health Psychiatrists and Therapists - Bowie?
“We are incredibly grateful for the care, patience, and support our daughter has received from her therapist. From the very beginning, she created a safe and welcoming environment where Irie felt comfortable opening up and expressing herself. What we appreciate most is her approach. She has an amazing ability to connect with children in a way that helps them truly understand their emotions, behaviors, and thought processes without making them feel judged or overwhelmed. She explains things in a relatable and compassionate way that really resonates with Irie and helps her grow emotionally and mentally. We have seen such positive growth in our daughter’s confidence, communication, and emotional awareness. As parents, it is comforting to know our child is working with someone who genuinely cares and is invested in helping her succeed. We highly recommend her to any family looking for a therapist who is knowledgeable, compassionate, patient, and truly gifted at helping children navigate life’s challenges.”
“The psychiatrist was nice enough and the front desk was initially good to interact with. Trying to get a hold of the doctor without making an appointment is an arduous task, however. They have a portal but there is no way to actually message your doctor on it. It all goes to the front desk who may or may not pass the message on. Regardless, they certainly aren't going to pass a message from the doctor back to you (I had a doctor say he told the front desk to respond to me but they never did). The only way I could get any answers is to call the office repeatedly until they actually ask the doctor to call you. It is so difficult to interact with the place and it's exhausting to deal with. I'm leaving the practice due to it.”
“The therapists and psychiatrists themselves are fine, but the front office at this practice is incredibly disorganized and difficult to deal with. Enough so that I cannot reccomend that anyone use this practice unless absolutely necessary. Their front office/phone staff actually give me more stress and anxiety than my therapy sessions relive. I have only been a patient here for about four months, and during that short time I have had problems every single month getting my medication refills processed. I follow their procedures and submit requests through the patient portal in advance, yet refill requests routinely go unanswered. The office claims these are handled within 2–3 days, but in reality you’re lucky to receive a response within a week unless you send multiple messages and make follow-up calls or emails before anything actually happens. They also frequently do not respond to my pharmacy’s refill requests, which results in my pharmacy having to contact me directly to say they cannot get a response from the office. At that point, I am left stepping in and chasing the practice myself just to get them to complete a basic prescription refill. For a mental health practice, delays with medication refills are not just inconvenient for patients, but also highly irresponsible of the practice. Communication from the administrative staff is also inconsistent and confusing. I have been told completely different things by the same staff member on multiple occasions. It honestly feels like policies are made up on the spot and that there is no record of what patients have previously been told. The office also appears extremely unorganized. Phone calls are often difficult due to background noise or staff mumbling and being incomprehensible on the phone. I have even called during their posted business hours only to be told that the person who could help me had already left early. On one occasion I was placed on hold while staff attempted to call someone who had already gone home and ask them to come back. To make matters worse, my therapist left the practice with only a few days’ notice. No one from the office followed up with me to get me scheduled with a replacement. I had to reach out myself to request placement with a new therapist, and TWO WEEKS LATER I AM STILL WAITING. At this point it feels like patients are expected to chase the office staff just to receive basic care. Again, the clinicians themselves are good, but the administrative side of this practice is such a mess that it actively interferes with patient care. Until that improves, I cannot recommend this office.”
“I’m so grateful for my therapist Faith Wilson! Her active listening, understanding, and commitment to help me be the best version of myself is appreciated. Doing the work to heal is not easy but she is intentional about navigating me to doing the work! Thank you!”
