How likely are you to recommend Coastal Pines Behavioral Health?

“As a mental health professional I’d highly recommend this brand new beautiful hospital to any individuals needing services. The leaders and staff care deeply about providing excellent care.”
“Very much needed resource for our community, beautiful facility with some amazing staff members. However I must say this facility was severely under-prepared to begin treating mental health patients. The admissions process alone will take 5+ hours and is very misleading. Myself and other patients I spoke to, were advised we would be able to come check out our options at Coastal Pines and even get a tour prior to admission. In reality as soon as you sign the first paper (as soon as you arrive) you can pretty much guarantee you will be admitted to their “voluntary” inpatient unit. This is a lock-down facility meaning you can not freely enter and exit, this will not be made known to you prior to signing papers. They required full payment upon release, this will also not be made known to you. You will not be able to advocate for yourself as you are basically signing away your rights. None of this was made clear prior to admission. Even the staff on the unit were uneducated on the facilities protocol and continued to encounter many technical difficulties as well. I will say I was treated with compassion by the associates and nurses on my unit. Truthfully, the only resources I really received was from an associate, Kaylee who took her own time to listen and help. The program itself mostly consists of structured group therapy and activities, which can be great when it’s needed. Behavioral Health resources and facilities like this are so important and so needed in St. John’s but it was disappointing to see how this place was running. I really hope as time goes on they are able to get everything in order and provide efficient and compassionate stabilization without having to take advantage of vulnerable individuals. It’s unfortunate this was not established prior to opening to our community and serving mental health patients.”
