“⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I cannot say enough positive things about my experience with Brighter Start Health in New Bern. Today was an incredibly difficult and emotional day for our family, and the level of compassion, empathy, and support we received was truly beyond anything I could have expected. Our provider took the time to listen without judgment, understand the seriousness of the situation, and help us develop a realistic plan for moving forward. What stood out to me most was the genuine care shown throughout the entire process. We never felt rushed or like we were simply another appointment. She treated my loved one as a person who was struggling and deserving of compassion, dignity, and the opportunity to get better. I work in a similar field, so I understand how challenging this type of work can be and how meaningful it is when a provider goes above and beyond. The empathy, patience, professionalism, and kindness shown today were exceptional. She was able to support my loved one while also helping me understand the importance of allowing him to take responsibility for his own recovery. I left today feeling supported, heard, and hopeful during an otherwise extremely difficult situation. I am incredibly grateful to Brighter Start Health and especially to our provider for the care and support we received. It truly meant more to me than words can express.”

“My mom attends group three days a week at Brighter Start and it has truly been wonderful—it has genuinely changed our life. I also want to point out something incredibly thoughtful that meant so much to me. Andrea, the lab lady, surprised all of them with the cutest Valentine’s Day goodie bags filled with candy and a little toy, and she took the time to write each of them an individual, personal note. My mom has never had someone care in that way before. The compassion and kindness here make all the difference, and we are so grateful to be a part of this program”

“This program has helped me so much! I do have to give one huge shout out though... My homegirl Andrea! Andrea always says she’s “just the drug test lady,” as if what she does isn’t that important—but honestly, she is so much more than that! She does so much behind the scenes that people may not always see or realize, and yet she still makes time for every single one of us. Every time she sees us, she takes a moment to talk, check in, and make sure we’re doing okay. Those little conversations and personal check-ins really mean more than she probably realizes. Andrea is incredibly sweet, caring, compassionate, and genuinely one of those people who makes a difference simply by being herself. She has a way of making people feel seen, heard, and cared about. She may call herself “just the drug test lady,” but she is definitely not “just” anything. She is an important part of the team, and the care and effort she puts into what she does does not go unnoticed. “I completed my assessment with Kenya when I first entered her office. At that time, I was not fully honest or transparent about what I was going through. After a few minutes, she paused, looked me directly in the eyes, and I asked her why she was being so serious. She stated, “The only way we can help you is if you are honest.” In that moment, I made the decision to shift and responded, “Okay, I’ll be honest.” From that point forward, I knew Brighter Start Health was the place for me. Every time I walk through the door, Kenya greets me with warmth—asking how I am doing, how my day is going, and whether she can assist me in any way. She is kind, reliable, consistent, and genuinely supportive in a way that makes a difference. I am currently in Maribeth’s group, and the way she presents material and information is unlike anything I have experienced. Her lived experience is evident in her teaching, and she models what she shares through honesty, integrity, and authenticity. I also deeply appreciate Ms. Donna, the peer support specialist, for her wisdom, knowledge, and unwavering willingness to help. Brighter Start Health in New Bern is a place filled with staff who are committed, compassionate, and truly invested in the growth and healing of the people they serve.”
