“I was here for a while. There was a lot of favoritism, manipulation, and immature workers who were more focused on being the kids' friend rather than their caregiver and guidance. There were very few good things about this place. The education sucked, and a lot of times kids wouldn't even be getting the work meant for their grade or level. The staff members, the ones who worked with us the most, were very immature and extremely wishy washy, which caused inconsistent rules and strictness. We were meant to receive an hour of counseling every week, however there were many times when the therapists were more focused on the rumors being spread around and it was cookie-cutter when it should've been more personal. While this place gave me horrible self esteem, made me hate authority more, and even made me act worse than before, it gave me a strength to get through stuff. I was admitted for being aggressive and defiant, and I was 14 or 15 years old. I stayed for almost 2 years, and I never once made it passed the base level due to rules being inconsistently enforced and my idea that the adults(staff) didn't deserve respect because of how horrible they were. This has gotten better, and while I would never recommend this placement for anyone, I am 18 now and in college for livestock production. My life has basically just started, and I hated my stay at Brighter Path but it's given me a different view of how to deal with adults who act like children, and children who think they run the world. Bless anyone who has been here.”
“A kid took their life because of this facility in 2022. Don’t not send your children here, look up troubled teen industry. Places like these traumatize people for the rest of their lives.”
“This place is awful I was there from August 8th 2023 to June 25th 2024 while being there kids got into fights with everyone destroying the place knocking holes in the walls busting cameras kicking down the door and running. I'm not going to say the name but one of the staff let Kayla watts jump me all because she didn't like me because I was white and I was a "trans female". That same staff let Symara Thomas jump me for literally no reason the kid blackened both of my eyes broke my nose and they didn't do anything about it but complimented her on doing it. Staff will threaten you and take you on your room where there is no cameras and beat on you. and then go back and delete the camera footage of them doing it. Staff will rub it in your face that they get to go home and we don't they curse at you they intimidate you into doing things. I got placed there for suicide attempt and the place made it worse for me I gained more trauma than anything. I would NOT recommend you putting your child there. The staff pick favorite kids and the do things with them and the ones who are not the favorite kids don't get to do anything. Please do not put your kids in here”
“While this place watched me grow as a person alot of the times this place causes children to become aggressive because staff doesn't always do their job at protecting the other children and don't always provide the adult figure they need in their life. This place will lie on you or lie to you. Yes I will admit that I did become close with alot of staff, Lil Wilson included, I love her and I hope she's doing amazing. This place kinda ruined me, and put me through more trauma than I already had, it made me less sensitive and mature I will say but now it's hard for me to be empathetic. Yes it's been almost a year since I've been discharged after I ran, but if they were doing their job instead of lying on children I would've left alot sooner. I hope everyone regret staff and children included are helping make Brighter Path a better place. P.S I had to repeat 10tu grade all because they wouldn't send my 1st semester credits.”
