“I have been seeing Dr. Bourgoyne since July 25, 2024. I’ll admit that this was my first time seeing a psychiatrist as an adult and I was very nervous, scared, shy, timid, anxious, etc. I was filling out my form for him waiting to be called to the back and my mind is racing in several different directions. A part of me wanted to just leave and say forget this, a part of me was saying, no you need to stay and let someone help you and a few tears fell down my face and I wiped them away as fast as they showed up. I continued to try to finish the form as Dr. Bourgoyne himself called me and asked if I was ready and I told him the truth and I said no, not really. He asked if this was my first time and I said yes sir and he said, it does get to a lot of people and makes them nervous. I apologized about not having the form completed and he said it was ok. He asked me is there anything I wanted to talk about and I grabbed my journal and sighed and I said there are a lot of things and I started with my childhood and I just started crying and breaking down and he reached over and handed me a box of tissues. I talked about my teenage years and then he said why don’t we save the rest for the next visit because I have some things or worksheets we need to do and I said yes sir. We completed them and he asked me to return in a month. So, here we are a month later and I actually completed the form this time lol.. this time I talked about my first husband and my second. He looked at me with kindness in his heart and said, “I don’t think I can help you out at this point in time because you have a lot of trauma that you have to work through.” I understood what he meant and I also thought that he was letting me go as a patient but that was far from it. He asked me, “What do you think about doing Behavioral Health Therapy IOP (Intensive Outpatient Therapy)?” I asked him very sincerely and I was crying, “Soes this mean you’re trying to put me in a mental hospital?” He stated, “Are you suicidal or a threat to any other person?” I said, “No, sir.” He said then I don’t have a reason to put you there. This is and outpatient clinic where they come to your house and pick you up for therapy and drop you back off. So, I agreed. If it wasn’t for him sending me to IOP, I honestly don’t know where I’d be. The weight of the world was lifted off my shoulders and I feel lighter and I smile more and laugh more. He saved me! I can’t thank him enough for that and I still see him to stay checked in and focused on the right path! Thank you so much Dr. Bourgoyne for all that you have done for me! I greatly appreciate it!
