“I am writing to file a formal complaint regarding my recent visit to Betterment Mental Health Counseling in Venice. I am a veteran, and the Department of Veterans Affairs is helping pay for my mental health treatment through your practice. I arrived for my intake appointment expecting to begin receiving the care and support I need. However, I did not even have the opportunity to complete my intake or have my scheduled appointment. Within less than five minutes of arriving, the interaction became so upsetting that I felt I could not continue. I left the office visibly shaking and emotionally distressed. I felt that I was treated in an unprofessional, dismissive, and insensitive manner. As someone seeking mental health care, I expected compassion, respect, and understanding. Instead, I left feeling worse than when I arrived. This experience was extremely disappointing, especially knowing that the VA is helping fund this care for veterans who are already struggling. Based on my experience, I would not recommend Betterment Mental Health Counseling to other veterans or anyone seeking mental health treatment. I also intend to share my experience with the VA so they are aware of the concerns I encountered. Instead of helping me calm myself or ask what is wrong the case intake guy told me to get out and never come back here.”
