What patients say on Google
“I first start off by saying if your in a bad place and dont want to be hospitalized, the group setting is great for getting support during a tough time. The other people who attend can be great support because they know what your going through. The coping skills that you learn are very helpful . One of the counselors was really really good, intuitive and caring, 2 others were ok, one of those would act little indignant when u asked her a question. the fourth would call you out on personal BS infront of group and just didn't have too much tolerance which is not conducive to helping people. The NP prescriber was not the best, she couldn't wrap her mind around the fact your having trouble with whatever med she prescribed, and I felt like she was always rushing me out the office, These meds can be mind altering and uncomfortable. I would suggest getting someone else to handle your meds, spent 3.5 months there and did not leave too much better. Was at Slidell for depression”
“I have been here twice. The first time I made a few friends here and there and I still talk to one friend, but the second time I made a group of amazing friends who have very similar issues. Now this program is not for you to make friends but stricktly to focus on your own personal journey to where you want to be in your recovery. They make that very clear in but never stopped us from talking too each other. I use that term “recovery” very broadly because I was in there for suicidal ideation, manic depression, and then after years of being undiagnosed bipolar disorder. They got me medicated asap. I was in the program both times for 5 to 6 months. The program is 3 days out of the week not open on weekends. It can be a lot with work and all but trust me your life and the potential for it to be better and even happier, is well worth the risks, if there are any. They have a clothing room where you can grab whatever clothes you need however you got to be in the program so nice try lol. Aswell as they serve lunch and coffee including a snack. It’s well worth a try that is mostly if not fully covered by insurance”
“This place is absolutely pitiful. They demand that everyone must wear shoes. It does not matter if somebody's disabled or has surgical bandages on their feet. No matter what size band you have they tell you to get a larger shoe which is not recommended by doctors. They obviously do not know what the Americans with disabilities act is. Maybe somebody should tell them.”
“I agree with Shelby. I was admitted to a Beacon at Lutcher and was told awful things and subject to verbal abuse. I was also gluten free at the time to heal my GI by doctors orders and they would not accommodate me whatsoever. I have nightmares about Beacon. We were not allowed any outside time. I had to sit outside in this tiny courtyard for smokers to get any “fresh air”.I am just a disabled person with a masters degree in the sciences they refused to let me review them after the process and expose them. I have had little success exposing them to the horrors of this place but I hope this review sends out a message. If you need help, please, do not be scared. There are amazing places that will help you. Just don’t go to Beacon because you will have to go to another place for the PTSD.”
