What patients say on Google

“In a week's time, Assessment and Counseling was able to provide answers and create an action plan for moving forward. All staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Appointments were on time. Care is through. Edit to add: I have had the honor to work with Tamieka Pitt. She works to make you feel seen and heard. She is flexible in her approach to meet her clients' needs. I highly recommend Tameika specifically, in addition to Assessment and Counseling as a whole.”

“EDITED TO ADD...I am actually very real and I was seen in your office in the month of February and March for 3 appointments. You called and berated me for leaving the review I did, so I edited it to add that extra info...so now you are trying to claim I am not a real person. HORRIBLE DOCTOR HORRIBLE PRACTICE. STOP IGNORING THE ISSUES AT YOUR OFFICE AND MAYBE I WOULDNT LEAVE NEGATIVE REVIEWS. Sad that this is the world we are coming to, where a mental health provider acts this way.”

“We loved being able to do the new testing! Everything was handled very professionally and we were treated with incredible kindness from all involved. Would highly recommend!”

“It’s hard to see so many 5 star reviews when the experience we had was so scary and unprofessional. I’m guessing people don’t want to leave bad reviews publicly for mental health providers without anonymity, so I feel compelled to share my experience. We were given one diagnosis for our child at our appointment and the addition of an entirely different (and much more serious) one in the diagnostic report (which was emailed to us in a way that was not secure and certainly not HIPAA compliant). When asking for clarification, I was told he “definitely” had the diagnosis he had just finished telling me he didn’t meet criteria for during the appointment… So we had to get on year long waitlists for CHKD and VCU for a second opinion after speaking with our child’s pediatrician and play therapist who both agreed this diagnosis did not make sense. We ended up getting appointments at both around the same time so we decided to do both. VCU and CHKD clinicians looked at Dr. Peterson’s report and were baffled. They had no idea what he had done to reach his conclusion and they did not think his computer-based evaluation (which he charges extra for and will tell you is the “gold standard”) was legitimate, but assured us our child did not meet any of the criteria for this diagnosis. All in all, a very simple and treatable diagnosis that can basically be done in a pediatrician’s office could have saved us a year of panic and stress. Aside from all that, I found Dr. Peterson to be inappropriate and unprofessional during our appointment and I wish we never wasted our time with this place.”
