What patients say on Google

“Kimberly seems kind and relatively educated, but I've felt my needs were not heard and many of my experiences were dismissed. My previous provider, who managed medications that worked very well for me, closed her practice. During pregnancy and breastfeeding, I made intentional changes to ensure my baby’s health, but my mental health remains critically important given my history of severe episodes, hospitalizations, and past suicidal tendencies. I know I am best able to care for my child when my mental health is properly managed. She immediately ruled out bipolar disorder, despite my diagnosis and treatment since age 15, based solely on the fact that my manic episodes do not ways involve sleeplessness. We shifted focus to BPD. I explained that Abilify had been pivotal for five years, and adding Wellbutrin significantly improved my quality of life before pregnancy. I shared that Celexa and Lamotrigine have not been as effective. Despite this, she refused to consider returning to my previous medications—even with my stated plan to revisit them after breastfeeding—saying she would not switch medications if a patient is “stable.” I want to feel more than just baseline; I deserve to be happy. I also felt confused by her claim that Abilify cannot be used as a standalone treatment, as it had worked well for me that way for over five years. Additionally, she does not conduct structured assessments or ask detailed questions about my symptoms. Instead, she asks broad questions like “how are you doing on your medication?” I have been experiencing ongoing mental health episodes recently that I wasn’t comfortable sharing openly and didn’t know how to communicate, and I believe a proper assessment would have been much more effective than such open-ended questions. When discussing ADHD, I shared my diagnosis, extensive treatment history, and success with Vyvanse after years of trialing other medications. I have nearly a decade of continous sobriety and took Vyvanse responsibly with strong support systems in place, including my previous provider, sponsor, recovery friends, and my husband. Despite this, she compared me to detox patients she worked with, which was an inaccurate depiction and disrespectful of my long-term recovery and progress. Lastly, much of our time has been spent on questions about my parenting rather than my mental health. While I understand concern for my child, this has led to unsolicited advice outside her scope of practice, including recommendations I consider unsafe. Overall, despite her friendliness, I’ve had a negative experience and do not feel this is an appropriate fit for my care. Kimberly, I sincerely hope you reflect on this. I have advocated for myself. I deserve respect as a patient with more severe mental health issues than major depressive disorder like you've incorrectly diagnosed and treated me for. I am a strong pillar in the recovery community, not a newly sober detox patient hounding you for drugs to get high on. I have done so much for my baby including restricting my medications, tirelessly breastfeeding, contact napping all day, exercising with him, seeing a multitude of doctors and specialists. I am a good mother, so you don't need to pry about how I am parenting my son. I hope that you can gain insight and become introspective from a patient challenging your ideals and practice.”
