What patients say on Google
“I was admitted to Akron Children’s inpatient unit more than a few times about 2 years ago, and every time I was up there it was okay. Obviously not the place you would want to be, but sometimes the place you need to be. All the nurses were great, as well as all the mental health techs. Great staff. Groups were decent. Food was okay. My only problem is the girl doctor. (will not say her name) was not the doctor I needed. Dr Spivey was great when I had him and always listened to what I had to say, and seemed to understand me a bit more than the girl doctor did. Overall it did help me being up there, I am doing much better now, and I can say that if I wasn’t up there for as long as I was, I would not be here to right this review. I appreciate the Akron staff. Overall a good place for mental health treatment.”
“If I could give it zero stars I would. Not only was I mislead about the help my child and I would receive but one morning they told me she would be discharged the following day then called a couple hours later and told me she would be discharged that day instead. When I voiced that I could not pick her up that day as I have three other children and had made arrangements to pick her up the following day like they had told me they said if I didn’t pick her up that day they would call children services on me and tell them I’m refusing to come get my child. They also told me multiple times that I needed to be making my child a priority as if I wasn’t, they were very condescending to me and my child, they did not help AT ALL. If your child needs mental health help, I’m BEGGING you to go elsewhere.”
“Went here for a week, and it was lovely, I was definitely heard and seen, and they made sure to provide me with an IOP and therapy network before I left the hospital, rather than just dumping me on my a**, like the last place I went to. One star deducted because a nurse was blatantly transphobic to me, but I told the nurse manager (I’m not a Karen I promise) and she fixed the situation, so only one deducted, as I still felt safe and supported. Thank you for the help, Akron staff. EDIT: I totally didn’t realize this was the children’s ward, I went to the adult ward because I am an adult, please ignore this review!”
“First let me say we were not at the psychrity department, but it wont let me change the title So my son had to go get some testing done, which was going to be an overnight stay for me and him.. no big deal, right?! The one thing I could count on when I had to go to akron Children's Hospital is their food... they have always had great food. Which I don't care what anyone says. If you have to stay at the hospital, you look forward to at least having a decent meal.. WRONG!!! First off, we got there on Friday, and to my surprise, they decided to turn off the gas in the cafeteria. So when I finally went down to eat.. I walk to an empty cafeteria. They had old pizza sitting there. 3 options, and that was it... ARE YOU KIDDING ME... I WAS SO DISGUSTED, I went back to my sons room and ordered a guest tray, which wasn't any better... so it's time for bed and first: I had to ask for blankets and pillows when why aren't they in the room when they know in this unit. Parents have to stay with their kids overnight with them.. I go to pull the back part of the couch, thinking it will fold out.. WRONG!!! The back part just comes down, and if you're sleeping and you roll, you will fall into the huge gap left from pulling the back down to sleep.. so I finally couldn't take that anymore and decided to just sleep on the couch regularly.. I HAVE NEVER HAD SUCH A HORRIBLE SLEEP IN MY LIFE. Scale of 1-10 it was -100... so I woke, and they said the gas is back on they have the full menu back. So I go back down to the cafeteria for some breakfast.. I'm thinking, oh yeah, I'm about to get me some pancakes.. eggs.. coffee ☕️ WRONG!!! EMPTY again, they had once again 3 options eggs 🥚, bacon 🥓 and sausage. Are you serious right now.. I kept walking around, hoping I might find something and nothing.. disgrace.. they should really be ashamed of themselves!!!! I have never seen a hospital 🏥 which has absolutely no food barely.. oh, and BTW, I found out they don't serve coffee all day either, only for breakfast.. yeah, real dumb.. they really need to get their act together... how do you have a world-renowned hospital.. but no food.. and the nurses I know I was told by several are not happy by the changes they made to the cafeteria... FIX IT Akron children's hospital...”
